i agree but the fact is that a lot of emphasis is given to adv. materials as it is the basic prerequisite for most of the advanced (stealthy etc…) concepts for a wide array of future DOD weapons systems.

I think at the mo DARPA is really interested in SMA (used on the F/A-18 wing warping demonstrator and a lot of other helo projects), SMP and and nano technology mainly for its ecm potential more then anything else. Other things that seem to be interesting are the Quartz Z pins that Aztec has got on its product list, i think radom manufacturers would be loving that.

Then theirs always the MEMS side of things. Lets see how far industry gets away from the autoclave and how better we can understand composites.

THE FACT THAT american defence establishment has placed research and development of advanced materials as a non-priority item is the biggest missinformation i have ever come across..i would reccomend the writer to go check into the ammount of money being poured in by the DOD+NASA into research of advanced materials for various defence related stuff including UCAV’s etc etc…He might also be interested in comparing the ammount of programs (volume vise as well as money wise) being managed by the DOD in this matter with the cumulative efforts of the ROW.

A lot of the material research starts to come under other deffence programs or even civil programs so they are never really highlighted. At the moment materials and materials processing seems to be the next evolution (NOT evolution) in Aircraft.

New Delhi, May 12 (Kashar News) India On Thursday test fired surface-to-surface medium range Prithvi missile from the integrated test range (ITR) at Chandipur-on-sea, Indian defense sources said.

Scientists of the Indian Defense Research and Development Organization and army personnel, who conducted the test, described it as a user’s trial.

Mounted on a mobile Tatra Transporter Erecter Launcher, the indigenously developed missile with a range of 150 to 250 km was fired at 1304 hrs, according to Indian sources said.

Hi the image is in fact some fan-art depicting the chinese J-13 fighter. It seemed to have more than just a passing resemblance to a number of line drawings depicting the Russian PAK FA which is why I posted it here. The actual place I got it was from http://www.centurychina.com/plaboard/forum.shtml , it was posted on the forum between June – Novemebr last year. Nice drawing…someone is very talented.

 I hope that forum doesnt present us with intellectuals lol..

A first look at India’s Mach 6-7 Hypersonic vehicle, to be used for various applications including cruise missiles… Bhramos 2???

Mr Prahlada, Director, Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Ministry of Defence, stands beside the prototype of the Hypersonic Technology Demonstration Vehicle (HSTDV) in Hyderabad on Tuesday. DRDL is working to produce its first Hypersonic aircraft with a speed of Mach 7 by 2007. AP

Why does this remind me of the American Hypersonic program?

about that blended wing project, I can see it working for cargo, but not for passengers. it’s capacity lies in its width, not length or height, so what will that mean for seating arrangement? Something like this?

    __ ____ ____ __
    __ ___ ___ __
    __ ____ __
    __ __ __
    __ __
    __

Then how are you going to evacuate the passengers?? It won’t work.

This is different from boeings blended wing project which we have already had a thread about, this would not have the same problems as for first class or not, you can still demark a line its just how, its not impossible.

    Anyway

just had a thought, why this cant be used as a flying missile cruiser.
