What bugs me is the news reports for the IN trying to go in for P3C Orions, why do we need to buy stuff in storage, that even production lines have stopped for? To think about issues and hassles as spare parts etc….even the US seems to be contracting boeing to convert a 777 into a naval recce…
Shouldn’t the better plan be to get a couple of replacement IL-38’s which are on their way….and think towards the future….perhaps an initial order of MTA’s for the navy, a small batch with the Sea Dragon kit incorporated into it….makes more sense to incorparate off the shelf Indian/Russian systems onto it then be pulling decades old Orions out of storage??
Infact, the 15-20 tonne cargo MTA might serve to be a useful platform on many other counts being perhaps the installtion of the desi AWACS, More Air refuellers, IL-38 replacements etc….

Is this the same deal that says that Indian Navy should tell the americans when and where the Indians will use the P-3C’s and they would have a say in how it gets deployed? i bet the Congress laps it up and signs up for it.. bleh..
Am I the only one that thinks that its better to get equipement that we can do with and develope as we wish and not have our hands tiead. what about when they close the production line? ( i am not sure but isnt it closed already)
They have screwed the UK over on the APACHES and the JSF! they wont think twice about doing worse to the Indians..
