You do the math. 120 < 400. LCA is due for 2006, so they claim. Why need to spend billions on a new purchase?

Well you see they are Indian, so what they do is that they replace ALL of the 400 AC with only 120, and the remaining pilots sit on top of the Airplane. and they will fly like that for the next 50 years.

till they need to replace those, and then they will buy 50 aircraft and all the pilots would once again sit on top of the plane.

See we Indians are good at being economical. 🙂

seriously though instead of just posting what u just did because a part of you wants to believe the same, try to think, contemplate and think again. The Airforce wanted to increase the squadrans. They order 120 stratigic strike capable aircraft that will allow them to not only increase the nuke deterent, but allow them to transfer pilots of the oldest Migs the airforce has onto new airframes and rotating the force so that the older versions are gotten rid of, and again this will happen slowly over times which means that some of these will be entering service at the same time as the LCA. Keeping the sam number of LCA that was mentioned before by the ACM, and adding the 120 aircraft (minus atrition losses etc ) will mean that the airforce would not be in such a danger of shrinking.

they are ordering 100 out of a possible replacement of 400+ aircraft. do the maths. And those 100 will only be introduced in batches.

ULM, Germany — New possibilities of reconnaissance and surveillance in the fields of defence and security offers the newly developed miniature radar MiSAR, that EADS successfully tested on board a German Armed Forces “Luna” reconnaissance drone during a flight demonstration in the Baumholder military training area.

As announced by EADS Defence Electronics (DE) on Friday, the miniature radar proved its reliability by supplying reconnaissance images in all-weather, high-resolution SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) technology in real time during the demonstration. “This means we have proved that SAR technology can also be used on a relatively light platform for military tactical reconnaissance as well as for police surveillance or for monitoring the environment,” explained Johann Heitzmann, President and CEO of EADS Defence Electronics.

SAR radar systems supply extremely precise, three-dimensional images by day and night and regardless of the weather. This is not possible with any other sensor technology. On account of their size and weight of at least 30 kg, these radar systems previously required platforms with a relatively high load-bearing capacity and a lot of payload space. This meant that there was no way of taking advantage of the benefits offered by SAR technology for obtaining precise real-time images for tactical military missions or time-critical security purposes. This is now possible thanks to MiSAR, which ranges in a class of weight substantially below 10 kg.

“Luna” is a reconnaissance drone manufactured by the German company EMT for detecting and identifying objects located on the ground. It has a range of approximately 80 kilometres.

As the Sensor and Avionics House of EADS, the Defence Electronics Business Unit integrates radar and electronic warfare technologies for all platforms used by armed forces and security forces around the world. Furthermore, the Business Unit develops and produces avionics systems for aircraft and helicopters as well as electronics for ground-based defence systems, armoured vehicles and vessels. Amongst other projects, DE is involved in equipping the Eurofighter, the A400M transport aircraft, the NH90 helicopter and the EuroHawk unmanned reconnaissance system.

they need a total of 500 aircraft, i guess, the 145 must be replacement of the oldest and least safe airframes. I guess they are phasing them out in very large periods.

Its doing upgradations i believe. i am not sure if any large numbers other then to replace the older/Atrition jags are being manufactured.
