Hmm. You don’t see that scrapping a project & replacing it with another one to fill the same hole is a delay? And how is this more or less on time? Every stage has overrun. Add up the delays, & they come to years.

Almost a decade if you consider the various mentions and requests etc about replacing indias ageing fleet of migs etc…

But the LCA has probably made things worse for it all…that whole will they wont they thing…

Considering recent programs such as CAI and also the F-22 PD and JSF PD including development of new engines for the same. £100,000,000 although would not get you a completed prototype bomber could see you a long way towards decent roots for the future bomber.

If it happens to be a modification to a UCAV and some structural/Aero/Impact analysis to show certain UAV’s could be uprated or up sized than again it is good foundations.

Even with stupidly expensive CATIA seated designers you are looking at what, $120/hour including other overheads? How many of those could you fit into a hundred million? And those guys are probably the most expensive of the lot.

With regards to inflation, if the contracts for development are given out then it would most likely be a fixed price contract. With regards to increased labour rates, well i am sure a lot of people have got the experience of increased food prices etc without the parallel increase in wages.

I am not saying you could make the next/first death star (depending on who you believe) but hundred million dollars is a lot of money and if used wisely could go a very long way towards a future bomber capability.

Abdul Kalam, has asked the Brahmos team to develop the Hypersonic version but also design it such that it can return to base.

So a hypersonic UCAV by the sounds of things is the idea. Not sure of the benifits against say a longer ranged version of brahmos with improved stealth features.

India needs that long distance strike ability, no point or use in developing short distance armament anymore.

We had a thread on this news, it may have been in the NAVY section. The real news is that the missiles seems to be ready to test, or close to it. Does not mention if the Intelligence and Surveilence systems are in place to help guide the missile on to its targets.

the NP1 and NP2 prototypes will fly with the F-404IN20 engine- but the production N-LCA’s will fly with the 100+ kN thrust F-414INS6 engine..more than adequate thrust to overcome any weight issues which anyway would be looked to be addressed on the NP1 and NP2..so relax and have some dhoklas. 😉

The last part of your comment is rather divisive and racist please delete before I have little option but to report you.

If the cost for the Apaches are from Af-Pak region than it is probably all that sand playing havok with the rotor blade LE’s and engines. Regular clean and dust off operations make sure parts arent ground to a pulp.

I like the idea of a gunship, maybe a gunship with a GPS or laser guided rockets and or artillary shells. Give fire support relatively cheaply.

Or bring the Ov-10 bronco on board. The US is looking in details in to the AT-6 isnt it? What happened to that? I thought the guys on that program were doing very well and getting some awards or something for the troubles.

Will be good to see what the performance envelope of the NLCA will be… Have been dreading that it would be a lot worse due to extra weight issues on the NLCA.

Good think the IN has the Mig 29K as the main stay for now.

What is the update on the Russian Order of AN-70? Will it really have the unducted fan (or ultra high bypass engine :S ) developed earlier? Forgot the name of the engine.

How many orders has the Cseries got so far? Heard that it has almost been put into the sidelines because of the A320 NEO launch.
