Yeah i wondered at first as surly using similar logo and name means they would pick up any debts of the airline? I know someone who actually tried to launch Gill Airways again (circa late 02) as they were very popular BUT they would be forced to pay outstanding debts to buy the name from the creditors.

Was it anyone who worked for the original Gill? Can you say who it was, out of interest?

I wish them well, but to be honest my hopes are not high for them to be a raging success. PIK/BHD was a great route for Gill in terms of pax numbers but the yields were terrible. They tried to put the fares up but us Celts don’t want to pay a lot for our flights and the pax numbers dropped and eventually the route was dropped from the network altogether. Shame, in my opinion. Times have moved on and easyJet and Flybe. will see the Glasgow – Belfast route ok and will hardly be shaking in their shoes about (the suberbly named, by the way) Air Caledonian. The other routes will be testing too I think, but the very best of luck to them.

I think anyone who starts up an airline these days is in for a great big struggle, not just small Scottish operators.

Price-wise though it has to be one the accoutants might prefer

Why do people insist that all bad decisions are driven by accountants? Would the marketing and/or commercial manager and directors and the chief exec’s of these airlines not have a say over the ‘accountants’ in such major appearance-related matters?
