the simple reason for the missing resistor is that it has just come in the post this morning it should be fitted this afternoon hopefully allowing us to try and test it next week.again anyone with more info on this item feel free to contact us.

as has been stated by other guys who work at brunty keeping the aircraft running and trying their hardest to keep them looking good in the outdoors, its hard work,we painted the vixen twice and that was hard work so the victor was worse.main point is that its looks fantastic matt and the guys have also painted the iskra and will continue with others there.please stop this pointless blah, blah about whats right and wrong, its soul destroying to the guys working on all the aircraft to do a job and then have people moan and slag off the results, stay in your deck chairs at home and keep typing you miserable lot of whiners.that got the steam out my ears are burning already.

we now have the ammeter for the control panel via ebay and the repainted panel is being rebuilt.really need internal pics of a fully fitted out example so we know what goes where, can anybody help us out here.pod itself has been stripped of all external panels and is being stripped and filled ready for paint before rebuild comences, hence the picture request.i’m sure my brother can post pics of the progress so far.

an update on 494’s progress for anyone who might be intrested.with the vixen now hangered, the canopy has been fully removed and all engine access panels as well to try and dry her off.the work on the brake repairs is nearly complete and the engine has now been reinstalled and is being reconnected with a view to hopefully getting her running early in the new year.we hope to tackle alot of outstanding jobs while inside, including the noseleg and some more work on the undercarriage.we should have a new ground comms system installed in time for us to run thanks mainly to our new radio man graham.incidently if anyone has any leads on the martel trials gear fitted to 494 we could do with the help as we would like to reinstall it all and try and see if we can demo it somehow.i know records can be a bit patchy with regard to trials aircraft but someone somewhere must have some info.will post more info when i have it.merry christmas to all from the xj494 restoration team.

with the help of xg692 i was sent a copy of ap113d-0104-16 rotary inverters type 100a which has a chapter at the end according to the index relating to the 100c but this chapter 5 appears to be missing.i spoke to the originator of this copy of the ap and it appears to be missing from his original copy and cannot help further,so i’ve come back to the forums for help.as this ap covers the 100a mainly and this type of inverter was fitted in many types of aircraft there must be someone out there with the elusive chapter 5 still intact.please contact me if you can help.

with regard to the pod at gatwick, even though you have no manuals you might be able to help us by taking pictures of the internals and how they all fit together its better to see it rather than work it out from old diagrams in manuals.so if you can send us any pics of what you have inside yours it would really help us out.send me or matt a pm or let milton know he has our contact details.any help from anyone would be good.we have lots of bits but not all will relate to the pod as the ones we have are largely empty.seeing the parts is a better way to id them.thanks again.

Bit of an update, after a reasonable weekend weather wise we achieved quite alot.i change some u/s breakers on the stb deck panel which then enabled us to power up the stanby inverter for the first time ever, this had the flight instruments and fuel gauges twitching away.also investingating this we manage to start and run the 108 inverter properly.two inverters going in one boom, this lead us to try things in the cockpit unavailable to us before.the standby radio sprang to life as well as the transmit recieve box and something to do with the transponder fired up.however the 108 had to be shut down as it was drawing to much current, need to look into that.started on the engine loom rewire also, got abit stuck there as the ap says not used on the wiring diagram so i only loomed the wires used, leaving 5 wires spare.something else to look into.any help with that anybody.dt progressed on the new hook cable and brake cable, hopefully once that is finished hyds can be restored for further testing and the engine can be dropped back in.we are still crossing our fingers that we can run in some form next year at the summer open day but lots of hard work still to do.still need arc52 wiring diagrams and intercom info, also palouste pod info pics to help rebuild ours.

in respect to the ht boxes we have found that as long as the number of sparks per minute match the amount specified in the ap don’t mess with it too much.steve can also testify that the 2kv spark is very strong as he got a good whack off one we were testing.we use leather gloves now to handle during testing.send me pics of the types you have and we can go from there.

hey mjr chris here matts brother, regarding cracker boxes myself and steve have been working on various types for the vixen all were fitted and interchangeable, rotax, lucas, bth, etc, etc.as long as it is a 2kv type it seems to work.we have found a modern equivelent for the small caps which gives you a half amp per box saving on current consumption.it all adds up in the end to save the gennys a bit.the main problem we have is the large caps 6uf value which does not have a cheap modern version,i have been swapping and changing bits to get working ones.i also have a couple of brand new spark gaps 4 the late bth type in boxes that i have not used as yet.spark gaps are common in my industry as we use arc lamps for filming.we also have the full aps for 3 types of the boxes with refurb and testing notes.let me know if you need anything i will try to help but only learning it all myself slowly.
