I really don’t think that the 100,000 Flying Hours on the Typhoon is a dig at the 30,000 Flying Hours on the Rafale. The Typhoon has had that displayed for a few months now & I believe the Rafale had theirs on just around the time of the Paris Air Show.

The export decals on the fin would have just been the number delivered so far.

A multination consortium in Europe has invited Korea to join its high-end jet production project in an apparent attempt to win what would be Korea’s biggest arms-procurement deal.

The move came following Seoul’s announcement that it would purchase 60 advanced fighter aircraft in line with its push to shift the country’s military posture from passive defense to proactive deterrence with a projected budget of up to 10 trillion won ($8.96 billion).

“We welcome the Korean industry to participate as EADS’s full member,” Erwin Obermeier, a senior advisor of export projects at EADS, said at the International Conference for Air and Space Power held downtown Seoul last week.

The DEAD/SEAD version of Meteor isn’t due for a good number of years yet and the ALARM is due to be brought out of service in the not too distant future.

07/07/2011 The Eurofighter has been downselected for the Indian competition and clearly the Eurofighter consortium hopes to replicate its success in Japan.

According to a Eurofighter press release:

Reflecting the strong commitment to deepen the strategic partnership with Japan, the Supervisory Board of Eurofighter GmbH will for the first time hold a board meeting in Tokyo. Senior executives from Eurofighter partner companies (BAE Systems, Alenia Aeronautica, and Cassidian in Spain and Germany) are visiting Japan from 5 July to 8 July to discuss the status of the Eurofighter Typhoon F-X campaign and strategic next steps, and to hold talks with Ambassadors of the four consortium member-nations – the U.K., Germany, Italy and Spain.

Jon Lake mentioned in a piece in Air International about the Typhoon 2020, it was stated that various glide-bombs will be a feature of the aircraft’s ability. So I guess its this one.

I appreciate even more when he says that Typhoon ‘s agility could be enhanced.

TVNs, LERX to name a couple. As I mentioned before, the Typhoon’s agility doesn’t really need to be improved, its fine the way it is. Of course the TVNs’ will greatly improve the Typhoon’s agility but thats not the main priority of the TVNs.

Designing an aircraft with an unstable aerodynamic configuration would be challenging enough for any maker. Of course they found this difficult in the early stages but at least they can take negatives & turn them into positives, i.e, learning. Its what it comes down to in the end.

If I may say , the Indians would better ask Dassault .

He seemed to forget about Paveway IV, he also seemed to forget that a senior RAF Official reported that for them at least, they’ll recieve funding to integrate Storm Shadow, Brimstone and Paveway IV in the next 3-4 years as was reported in a recent edition of Air Forces Monthly. Of course funding is a problem but that doesn’t mean the Typhoon will not recieve any.

I disagree. Other than India, the Typhoon 2020 variant still has potential buyers, Japan, Turkey, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Switzerland and possibly Denmark also.

Although Eurofighter are proposing the Tranche 3 to India, with AESA, MIDS, DASS, state of the art weapons & comunication systems etc, theres been no word if it’ll come with TVNs and CFTs which would effectively make it the 2020 variant. However, if India selects the Typhoon later ones produced on Indian production lines could support the 2020. For all we know the 2020 variant is on offer to India, Eurofighter are certainly keeping their cards close their chest.

Still, its been causing more than enough havoc on the grounds of Libya, more than enough to ruin anyones day with the limited A/G capabilities it currently has. What would Gaddafi say if you told him to send up his fighter/bombers in the air where theres a bunch of Typhoons lurking about, (or if you asked many other countries’ Air Forces for that matter), I’d bet you’d get a short, sharp answer.

Not to mention the RAF Tornado GR4s with dozens of Storm Shadows fired at various high value Libyan targets.

This weapon is one hell of a bit of kit.
