Not least because Russia don’t have the technology to make single piece canopy. The Chinese and AMericans haven’t found it that hard…

E’hm? What kind of “technology” do you need to make a single piece canopy? The same kind Jedi’s and Sith’s use to make Lightsabers?…

Mind you, it must be quite hard to make because the Americans use a two-piece canopy on their F-35’s…

*sigh*

That’s what your personal opinon, but as I said, the discussion on the radar started by a report that IAF wants fast induction, so they seems have a different opinion right?

Dassault, Boeing and LM will be able to deliver their fighters even earlier than, it’s only the other contenders that will have problems here.

Theres not much a threat that India cannot handle with their current fleet of aircraft, so probably, as I said it wouldn’t hurt them too much to wait a little longer but then again, if Typhoon is selected, production for that particular radar will likely speed up. Lets see.

I know the last part you said isn’t directed at me, but what do you mean by “other contenders will have problems here”?

If any one of a type is selected soon, they only have to do produce a small number of aircraft on their own production line(s), there isn’t much of a problem here as far as I’m concerned since all of the makers lines are still producing aircraft, and the rest of the aircraft will be produced in India soon later on. And if India want those initial aircraft earlier, all well and good, but if not, no big deal.

Thank you Scorpion82, you stole my moments, once again! D**n you to bloody bowls of hell! LOL 😉 But thanks anyway, you explained your points in the replies to “them” a bit better than I would.

I’ll be quite honest, I’m just as fond of the Rafale as I am of the Typhoon, I’d rather the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm would purchase that than the F-35 but thats another story. All of these exercises thats taken place between the two, are, as the name suggests, ‘exercises’, meaning they’ve been practicing against one another, finding out eachothers weak and strong points. ACM isn’t just about finding out ones strongs points, it’s just as or even more important to find out ones weak points, too, kind of like what Boxers do. So both sides are at least guaranteed to have the upper hand.

I’m not sure why some Rafale supporters are bashing the Typhoon for not being in Afghanistan etc, (well I do know why but I’ll keep those comments to myself 😀 ) Scorpion82 has explained the obvious quite well I think, and not for the first time neither. It’s just a shame not everyone can get it into their heads. But then again, if some people don’t understand why Typhoon is in The Falklands, it’s going to be a bit of a rough ride explaining it to them…

“Oh but why is the Typhoon in The Falklands for? Theres no threat there!!!” Blah, blah, blah, wibble, wibble, wibble…..” Is whats more or less moaned about these days. Well two things;

1) No more Tornado F3’s.
2) The last time anyone said that there was “no threat”, Argentina thought it’d be a good idea to invade The Falklands.
And I’d like to add a third; we have oil there. 😉 😀

So, quite a good number of reasons we’ve got Typhoon’s there.

The F-35 is a Modern Day Stealthy “Strike Fighter”………….Regardless, its not becoming obsolete like current 4/4.5 Generation Fighters. Which, is clear with the advent of the F-22, F-35, PAK-FA/FGFA, and J-20.;)

Respectfully:cool:

Nice to see that you have a sense of humour, Scooter. Especially about the current types being “obsolete”. Funny. 😉

Or the second option- they don’t think the competitors will match the F-22, which will be benefitting from technological upgrades, while the others are busy trying to match the initial Block capabilites- just sayin.

Yeah, other countries don’t upgrade their aircraft do they…

To be quite honest, I’m not sure what there is to be worried about…

I remember a few years ago, LM and the USAF too, I think (and fan-boys) said something like; “There will be ‘nothing’ that will match the F-22 in next few decades”…(I believe they mean’t as long as the F-22 is in service).

Well…

Just saying, just saying…

I thought one was a flying truck and the other a bomb truck

Eeeeeee! Shhhhh! MATT! Don’t say that its a bomb truck, “they” (F-35 fans) don’t like that meaning, they like “fighter”. 😀

So…

Matt, you were saying? You thought one was a flying truck and the other a “FIGHTER”? 😉

😀

Why should the RAF send their Typhoons to Afghanistan when the Tornado GR4’s are already doing a fine job in CAS?

Like whats already been mentioned to death, the Typhoon has other commitments especially in RAF service, operating in The Falklands, UK and even providing CAP over some parts of Europe, not to mention training aircrew, groundcrew etc. You can’t just get a bunch of pilots that already know how to operate the Typhoon in the A/A role then suddenly tell them to go to Afghanistan to perform A/G sorties. They need training and the ones that have performed A/G sorties in the past on other types, need to be refreshed. Yes, theres Typhoon pilots that already know how to operate the aircraft in the A/G role, but theres not very many of them at the moment and they need to pass on their ‘know how’ of its abilties. Not to mention the excerises thats been going on; with the likes of the Indians and their Suchois, oh and, guess who else with, too? Yes, with French Rafales here in th UK not so long ago.

Like I say, theres no need to send Typhoon to Afghanistan at the moment where the Tonkas are doing a good enough job. Just because they haven’t been sent doesn’t mean its any good. Fine, boast that the Rafale has seen action, so what? Good for them, they’ve been in service bit longer than Typhoon so they’ve had more time it’s A/G abilities to be developed.

Some posters on here are so full of Sh*te. It’s like flicking through comments on a Youtube page…No meaning, nothing to back up their sad, silly claims…

You can’t just read the first sentence, forget about the “In addition” bit and then make me say what I don’t want to say.

According to Wikipedia : “fifth-generation fighters are characterized by being designed from the start to operate in a network-centric combat environment, and to feature extremely low, all-aspect, multi-spectral signatures employing advanced materials and shaping techniques. They have multifunction AESA radars with high-bandwidth, low-probability of intercept (LPI) data transmission capabilities. The Infra-red search and track sensors incorporated for air-to-air combat as well as for air-to-ground weapons delivery in the 4.5th generation fighters are now fused in with other sensors for Situational Awareness IRST or SAIRST, which constantly tracks all targets of interest around the aircraft so the pilot need not guess when he glances. These sensors, along with advanced avionics, glass cockpits, helmet-mounted sights (not currently on F-22), and improved secure, jamming-resistant LPI datalinks are highly integrated to provide multi-platform, multi-sensor data fusion for vastly improved situational awareness while easing the pilot’s workload”

Exept that all the stuff about network-centric, data fusion, supercruise, sensors etc has been claimed by 4.5 aircrafts like Typhoon, Rafale, F15k, SU 30MKI, SU 35 etc… So what is left to a 5th gen aircraft is low observability. In fact all aspect stealth even when armed is at the very core of their ability to be “force multiplier”, “game changer”, “extremely survivable” and all the wonders we have been promised.

The fact that a Mig 31 is “non-emitting” doesn’t make it “stealth” defined as:
“Stealth aircraft are aircraft that use stealth technology[1] to interfere with radar detection as well as means other than conventional aircraft by employing a combination of features to reduce visibility in the infrared,[2] visual, audio, and radio frequency (RF) spectrum”(my friend Wiki again).

The problem with Wikipedia is, its very easy for anyone to edit. I could easily Google Adolf Hitler, click on the wiki link, go to edit and say he was the sweetest, kindest and most loving of all Nazis, peace loving, was against violence, racism & was rather fond of the Jews and the Nazi Party was a charity organisation that helped the poor and brought peace to the earth. (registered charity number: 835467823) Contact Email: info@www.nazi-party.org

You wouldn’t believe that if you actually read it, would you?

Take whats put on Wiki with a pinch of salt, don’t quote anything from it.

P.S. That Nazi email isn’t real! 😀

And like I say, they have screwed us over before, and will do what is in their best interests. One meeting later and you seem to think they’ve given up all self-interest. You can argue the same for the US, but the US doesn’t really gain anything from screwing us over, where as French gets proportionately a lot more from it. As I said, the French will milk it to harm Typhoon, it doesn’t matter about F35, its going to be going for a different market and long after Typhoon finishes production. Rafale is competing right now for Typhoon contracts.

And to top it all, you just assume the Americans will be happy with the situation, and won’t feel at all screwed by us on the F35. And there all the other points I’ve made already about why F35 is a better choice. Anyway, its all irrelevant as there is absolutely zero chance of Rafale being procured, because as I’ve already said in this and other threads as have several others, the government wants to avoid the cost right now and would rather push costs into the future when the ecomomy is better, which makes Rafale a very unattractive option as this is incomparible with the Rafale production.

BTW, I’ve still got that bridge for sale if you’re interested? 😎

Well I don’t think the Rafale will be purchased, too. It just seems a good idea to have a talk with them about it since we’re going to share a lot of tech with them, see what they have to say and offer & all. But, yeah, okay…

…You missed quite a few points I was trying to make, not your fault…

…The Mad Hatter is waiting for you in Wonderland.

Ta-ta

P.S. Wrote a letter to the PM yet warning of the evil Frenchies? *wink-wink* 😉

You have no idea what you are talking about. Clearly, the F-35B has issues that need to be resolved. Yet, so did the V-22 Osprey and it is in Service Today. As a matter of fact the Osprey crashed several times and many people were killed. Yet, it is flying today……….The F-35B has no issue remotely close to the V-22. Yet, somehow the US Government isn’t going to back an expensive “looser” like the F-35B.

Respectfully, you have no idea of what you speak….:p

To be quite fair, the V-22 is not a complex design compared to the F-35B…

We profit from the F35 though, theres no way we will get the same benefit from a Rafale procurement, = massive UK job losses. As for the French screwing us over, oh yes they will, they aren’t really going to lose out by doing so.

http://www.france24.com/en/20110104-france-industrial-espionage-economy-germany-russia-china-business

We could still make a profit, just like we did/or still do with the Gripen. Just because we don’t operate a particular “thing” doesn’t mean we’re not going to benefit from it. If we dropped the F-35, I think the Americans would still want us to have something to do with producing it. I very much doubt they’d want to dish out more money for the F-35, don’t you?

OMG those evil Frenchies, I think you better write a letter to David Cameron warning him…

…I think the UK are quite well aware of this & I think they know what they’re doing. Like I say, I don’t think they want to p*$$ eachother off for the next 50 years.

So the F-35B is on double secret probation? IF it is canceled, what will happen with Marine Air? It doent look like the Marines have any sort of plan for this eventualiy. The America’s whole design is built around operating these jets. So, agai, IF it goes the way of the Dodo, What will the Marines do?

Same as the Fleet Air Arm & their Harriers. Make do without.

Nope, I said that the F/A-18E/F is significantly cheaper, and equal if not better in the strike role than the Rafale.

My mistake, thought you mean’t the F-35.

Or more likely the French will screw us over on the aircraft, the use it as marketing to attack Typhoon. Don’t think they would? They already use dirty tactics against Typhoon, so don’t think they wouldn’t welcome the extra ammo, and they would use it. You’re far too trusting of the French, even if we are “partners”.

Dirty tactics against the Typhoon? What, like doing them silly videos showing the Typhoon getting “owned”? Well guess what, the Americans are doing the exact same thing against us even though they want us to buy their toy and guess what we’re doing? Yes, we’re dong that too. And we’re far too trusting the Americans with this F-35, even if we are “allies”.

If we managed to operate the Rafale and they started to use that as extra ammo, it’d be like Germany saying to India; “Ha! Ze Englander uze ze Typhoon ze same as uz! Dunk-ov!”…It really wouldn’t go down that well, would it? Besides, if they wanted to use extra ammo, they’d use it against the F-35, not the Typhoon.

C’mon, the French aren’t stupid. I don’t think the want to p*$$ us off in the next 50 years, like wise for the UK, too.
