No need to apologise and i’m well aware of Typhoons supersonic abilities but that doesn’t change what I said about the Typhoons dogfighting and post-merge WVR speed, which is about the same as every other fighter out there.
I must because it’s getting off-topic, so apologies once again. Not quite, Typhoon has the ability to enter the merge at much higher speeds than the likes of F-15, F-16, Super Hornet etc since they don’t pass Mach 1.0 (not on a regular basis at least) due to a number of reasons. The former has the ability to enter the merge at a much higher Mach. During Exercise Western Zephyr and Exercise Red Flag this year they were launching BVR shots at Mach 1.6 and entering the merge at a higher Mach than those they were up against as well as claiming kills in WVR at higher speeds also.
A perfect example of what i’m talking about, notice how the typhoon is not “faster” in the dogfight. The F-16 pilot has played to his advantages and worn the energy of the Typhoon down.
Indeed the F-16 has, no one has stated the Typhoon is invincible and can be as vulnerable as others, and it certainly isn’t always going to be playing at it’s advantages – which is high energy, altitude and speed. On a separate note, the video proves my earlier point to Growler which he seems to dismiss. If you’re higher and faster than your opponent you have the advantage in the fight. Speed, energy and altitude has been the way since WWI.
That’s a legacy Hormet for gods sake. Look at it closley, you can see its small and it doesn’t have big wings and it’s round things i should call it cheeks. Big nonsense, you’ll confirm it’s a super hornet while the rest of us agree that that’s a legacy hornet.
Many people ask innocent questions even when they’re simple ones that are obvious to others, there’s no need to fly off the handle like that.
There’s a lot of images about of the Mirage 2000 with a configuration with a number of BLG 66 Belougas also.
One of the first things that struck me of that image was the Pilot’s position in the aircraft from that angle, they just look like they’ve got excellent view.
A very old shot.

Combine this with the multiple carriage in each of the F35B internal bays, they are saying that the UK has all it needs between Typhoon and F35B going into the future. 16 Spear 3 with 60-100mile range is quite a capability for an aircraft that isn’t as stealthy as it LM counterpart.
I was thinking more of the configuration of the inner stations. There’s no room for the landing gear…
No weapons on board, apart from a single AMRAAM from the image’s perspective, but a wonderful picture nevertheless.

Wilhelm, some people post cr@p on a daily basis such as Goldust with his silly DSI paragraph. It’s a clever concept but it’s not ground breaking and it’s only a way to control the air flow into the engines, the US experimented with it in the ’90s. Although it wasn’t called DSI back then, English Electric came up with a concept which basically done the same job as DSI, it was on the Lightning.
Don’t like what I have to say (which is very often a hell of a lot more of a contribution to most posters), click the Ignore button.
And, since this is an English speaking forum, why not an English link of the one Y-20 posted earlier?…
Let me know when Europe can put a nuclear battery powered rover on the Moon like China does later this year :highly_amused:
Let me know when China can copy a Rolls Royce Phantom without bolloxing it up.
Y-20, English forum?…
Yea really… it doesn’t matter, it only matters to get the kill.
The higher you are, the faster you are, the greater your chances are of getting the kill. It’s been the same since WWI. That video of the Hornet and Mig-29 confirms it. When the Mig-29 climbed, he was higher and faster & had the advantage, when the Hornet tried to keep up he lost control of his fighter. Later on, when the Hornet pilot was showing his kill on the video, he was higher and he was faster, he got the kill… It does matter!
Doesn’t matter how fast your plane is to dogfight…
Well, it does…
When a programme has some technical difficulties and, whom ever, reports these issues, I don’t understand why a lot of it’s cult followers get so touchy about especially when these issues are real. The F-35 lot seem to be very sensitive to these kind of reports, true reports. But I guess some people just want to hear nice things and nothing that might upset them… Silly.
No doubt Gripen piggybacks off the Typhoon’s technology.
I wouldn’t say so. Apart from similarities between the Captor-E and the Raven, what both aircraft have in common are minimal. There’s a lot more American technology/equipment in the Gripen than there is British or German.
But it doesn’t really go faster than any other fighters such as F-15’s, 16’s, Rafales, Gripens, Flankers, Hawks, Harriers etc etc when involved a dogfight. Sure it’s got great energy but is it actually flying faster in a dogfight, no, not really.
In WVR combat high speed plays an important element as it would in BVR, if one’s aircraft is designed for high speed WVR scenarios then it’s going to be used to it’s advantage, it’s what Typhoon pilots practice. They even practice BVR shots taken at Mach 1.6+ above 40,000ft – there’s not many fighters that do that since a lot of them rarely break Mach 1.0, F-15 springs to mind.
Sorry, off topic.
It ain’t a Super Hornet! It’s a legacy hornet but interesting. 🙂
I should have just said F/A-18. 😀
Well like i said, “It depends on the pilot/enemy if they’d want to engage in a Highspeed or Low Speed dogfight”. It doesn’t have to always be a Highspeed dogfight.
Indeed. On another note, it’s basically fighters have a broad range of A/A capabilities, such as HEA or in the Super Hornet’s case JHMCS. Everything is covered as much as possible.
An interesting documentary about the US Navy Super Hornet exercising with Luftwaffe Mig-29s. Very interesting!
Hear AMRAAM not ASRAAM XD
I’m sure someone said ASRAAM. XD
Has anyone seen any images of RSAF Tornado carrying a significant weapons load? I’m only came across some showing a RSAF Tornado with a couple of ALARMs and Sidewinders on the drop tank pylons… I’m beginning to think if the RSAF carry anything on their Tornados.
