Well i don’t know how to agree on this debate. Super Hornets called a slow speed air superiority plane/dogfighter. It has the best slow speed characteristics for maneuverability in the air superiority arena. I doubt any fighter can go that slow to dogfight like a Super Hornet. Super Hornets challenging plane to fight in the air. But Eurofighter has to go fast to dogfight, meaning it’s afterburners are always on to dogfight the opponent and get the kill. I don’t know how well the Super Hornet can do in a high speed dogfight, meaning don’t know how can it dogfight using afterburners all the time. But in slow speed dogfighting, you’ll have to use afterburners to climb/get energy for the Super Hornet.
There’s a reason why Typhoon goes fast during a dogfight, it’s because that’s the best way to fight. Higher speed = better energy. Slower speed = less energy, (depending on power to weight ratio, thrust, aerodynamics, airframe design etc). And it doesn’t always necessarily need reheat to dogfight, for an aircraft that can go supersonic from brakes off in 30 seconds, it pretty much shows that there’s plenty of thrust available – meaning less time can be spent on reheat to save fuel.

There’s nothing in Europe that can match the nose authority of the Super Hornet at slow speeds.
It may look slow but in airshows the Flankers entertain the people with their slow speed thing but it ain’t close to Super Hornets maneuverability.

It would seem as though the Paveway IV drops were done via HEA + Litening, or via Litening from another source. Some followers on Twitter took some pictures of him taking off in IPA6 with him wearing HEA and the aircraft ‘without’ Litening. He’s just announced that he has received a patch from Raytheon for dropping Paveway IVs so things are going well, as he pointed out in a “tweet” earlier.

As a result, the Argies were sh*t scared of fighting the Gurkhas and decided to surrender at the first opportunity, to the dissatisfaction of the Gurkhas – which were later told by a British officer that; ‘It’s a greater victory knowing your enemy surrendered because they didn’t want to face you without firing a single bullet, than losing some of our own and winning!’. Of course, they took this on board and of course they’re nothing like the propaganda made them out to be.

The bold part I quoted in my last post! Slow speed = Kinetic performance! I’ve said this twice already! Slow speed maneuverability (handling) is okay if you’re lining up to land on a carrier in the middle of the Pacific in rough weather – but isn’t that useful when you’re up against another air superiority fighter at much higher speeds. If you’re in a Super Hornet and your opponent is a supersonic fighter capable of maneuvering at, and beyond supersonic speeds, you’re going to be in a world of hurt! Typhoons simulate launching BVR shots at Mach 1.6 at 40,000+ ft, the Super Hornet ain’t going to be launching anything like that. And I must stress that I’m not mentioning Typhoon for the sake of it or to derail the topic. It’s the way it is, Super Hornet lacks that kind of kinetic performance.

Might, but the chances are slim.
There’s a lot of aircraft capable of taking on an F-22 in WVR, or in a ‘Guns only’ engagement. Same can be said for other fighters, the Lightning, for example, was capable at going WVR with Guns with many newer and more sophisticated aircraft later in it’s life and come out with very good results, though it was a different story once the gaps grew.

The mechanically scanned Captor-M, yes. There’s a bit of a family tree thing going on with the Captor radar. Blue Vixen (FA2), developed from the Ferranti Blue Fox (FRS-1), AMSAR, Bright Adder, CAESER, Captor-M, Captor-E, Radar-1, Radar-2, Radar-3, (Captor-E Radar-3 based on Bright Adder)… It’s quite astonishing where it all traces back to.

Confirmation about these “Lumps”, someone asked. Basically they’re Paveway IVs. Seems as though Nat was performing a lot of high G forces while approaching Mach 1 and got bruised in the process. IPA6 is out performing trials today, and I believe tomorrow too.
To additionally add to Scorpion82’s comments regarding Radar-1 and Radar-2.
Radar-1 should offer equivalent performance to Captor-M but with the traditional benefits such as multi-mode flexibility and reliability of an AESA and enhanced ECCM. Radar-2 will offer increased detention and tracking ranges compared to Captor-M and Captor-E Radar-1.
they save cost cuz they combine mrca and stealth fighter program into one. f35 can do both. so they save money and time in the long run.

The F-35 is still in development with an unknown cost and a shaky introduction date. The F-35s being delivered to the UK (not England, you pillock!) aren’t operational units, I do know that, which is more than what you know about anything.
The early ones had two nose guns, F3 had none, the F2A hand both nose and ventral guns and the F6 had two ventral guns.
All had various ventral packages, one being 44 two inch rockets.
The F2A just had the nose Guns. The Ventral section was used for extra fuel, also the F2A had the best endurance out of all the Lightning Marks. Many F2A pilots recorded in their log books that generally flew over 90 minutes un-refuelled on practice Battle Flight scramble sorties even with a reheat climb to height.

That is what I am talking about. As in many cases you don’t need 2,000, 1,000, or even 500 lbs PGM to take out a target. So, it’s much better to have the option to attack more targets on a single mission.
Indeed! For example, during Operation Ellamy in 2011, RAF Typhoons only had the 1,000lb Paveway II for A/G sorties but when they needed the weapons for built up areas surrounded by civilians, they reduced the Paveway II’s HE or used inert Paveway IIs to take out armoured vehicles or a specific area.
By the way, that image of Typhoon with SPEAR IIs is over-ambitious.
