Why not post F/A-18 images on it’s own dedicated thread?… Just saying.

you did not count it so i know you are lying.
why dont you count yourself. if you did you see j10b radar is around 1200
the typhoon iis around 1000. it even say so on their webpage!
That AESA radar is actually the CAESAR radar, it is a ‘prototype’ for the Captor-E AESA, two different radars although they have a lot in common. The CAESAR radar has had a varied number of T/R Modules fitted to it’s antenna throughout it’s testing, ranging from 50-70 T/R Modules to over a 1,000 for trial purposes. Captor-E, the production model, will have 1,400+ T/R Modules fitted, maybe more, as has been reported by industry officials. So no need for me to count, nor lie. And I say again, has a WFoR which the J-10B’s doesn’t.
this is why you have no experience. being first mean you can be first to see how it work and then make change. it means j10b radar is more a pioneer.
you can see like jf17 and indian tejas, jf17 made it first and paf is giving feed back already to make the next block version.
So, they’re putting an AESA radar into an aircraft then seeing how it works, then make changes… that’s what you’re saying. Do think things through before you speak. Somehow, I doubt that’s the case. *Sigh*.
The companies involved in CAESAR/Captor-E have years of experience working with AESA technology in Europe. The CAESAR/Captor-E can be traced back to 2002 with the likes of the AMSAR programme, which itself dates way back to 1993. As I say, being the first to integrate an AESA radar into an operational fighter doesn’t mean there’s an overall advantage, experience is a key element. And J-10B’s AESA isn’t pioneering anything, other than for Chinese industry.
The black Typhoon would look nicer with Meteor semi-recessed and underwing ASRAAM.
Indeed. Overall I like the Satin/Gloss Black scheme, pity it was only used for trials. It was simply to hide sensors and other gizmos on the aircraft from sneaky eyes. How Skunkworks! 🙂

Mods? What mods?
The weapons pods and Conformal Fuel Tanks (CFTs). Although they’re aerodynamic, there’s a trade-off which is weight and more thrust from the engines will probably be needed to compensate for acceleration, top speed etc. However, the same can be said for the engines. More thrusts means more performance but the trade-off(s) is are higher engine maintenance, higher fuel consumption & what have you.
Fair enough. There’s nothing wrong with discussing other aircraft as long as the aircraft the thread is originally about is largely orientated. The only reason Typhoon was brought up was because it was featured in the article Y-20 Bacon showed you. Same for the Pakistan thread, someone else brought it up before I did, wasn’t me.

It looks like a Teapot…

How British! *Salute* 🙂
In all seriousness. They’re going to be quite something!
Ok we know you love the Typhoon but just please get out of this thread beacuse there’s nothing to do with this Typhoon conservation. Even this isn’t a Super Hornet vs Typhoon thread either. The Mods going to be angry and lock the thread. I suggest to you is to move on. Take that info to a person who is talking about the Raptor or something. This is a “Picture” Thread for the last time. Super Hornet is capable of BOTH Air Superiority and Air To Ground operations. I HATE when people say its capable of this. It’s capable of BOTH operations, get it right.
Well, first off. I’m not sure why you’re getting cross since it’s harmless to talk about aircraft in a picture thread. Check the Tornado and the Impressive Weapons Load threads. It’s pretty often members talk about types on those and they’re generally welcome.
Secondly. Y-20 Bacon suggested You might like an article regarding the Super Hornet being suggested to be leased to the Royal Navy (which is fine, Super Hornet related, on topic), and that it claims the Super Hornet is a better ground attack aircraft than the Tornado and Harrier, and a better air-defence fighter (and cheaper) than the Typhoon. I noticed you didn’t question those claims… I pointed out that the article shouldn’t be taken seriously because of what I stated in posts ’64 and ’69, which are perfectly valid to the discussion. A silly “report” should be addressed if posted in the first place because too many people get the wrong perspectives.
Thirdly. I wasn’t comparing the Typhoon to the Super Hornet in a way that it’d start a ‘Versus thread’. In fact, if you bothered to have noticed, I claimed the Super Hornet is a more capable A/G platform than the Typhoon. I also pointed out that the Super Hornet would make a better Carrier/ship Air Defence fighter out to sea, obviously due to the fact that it’s a Carrier borne fighter where as Typhoon isn’t. I.e. the Super Hornet is capable in BOTH A/A and A/G.
Fourthly. If you don’t like what you read, or fail to grasp what people say, simply ask about it or don’t.
i dont understand point of yours. death star is not real. its from a movie called star track. it is not airplane neither. you cannot compare that to j10 or rafael or whatever.
the picture i post is real evidence.
I was being sarcastic… Poor attempt at humour.
So, what exactly are you trying to prove with the images? The images you posted are simply showing aircraft with radars in them. (By the way, that image of Typhoon shows it’s the Captor-M radar, a very old image). But what those images don’t show is how capable they are nor what they’re actually capable of. You can count the T/R Modules and work out the sizes of the antennas and one would get an idea of their Field of Regard, for example. But surely, if you took time to count the T/R Modules on each antenna and learn about their Field of Regard, you’d find out that Typhoon’s AESA has in excess of 1,400+ T/R Modules whilst the Rafale’s and J-10B’s each has a similar number of approximately 1,100 T/R Modules. It is also worth noting that the AESA radars on the Rafale and the J-10B have ‘fixed arrays’, where has the Typhoon’s Captor-E (AESA) has it’s array coupled to a ‘Repositioner’ giving it 220-Degrees WFoR, (Wide Field of Regard), significantly more than the former’s AESA’s arrays. Work it out.
And, being ‘the first’ to have an AESA means little to nothing.
A ‘Black’ Typhoon. Very nice.

Sharkey Ward shouldn’t be taken seriously. As afore mentioned he has a special kind of hatred towards the RAF and what they operate, I recall one time he questioned the Tornado pilot’s courage during Operation Granby (Gulf War I), which was the final straw for many, including his fellow serviceman in the Royal Navy. He also questioned/doubted the RAF’s capabilities regarding the Tornado GR4 and Typhoon FGR4 during Operation Ellamy (Libya) and how the Harrier would be have been better suited and more capable than either with Carrier support. He failed to mention that the Harrier would have lacked in several areas such as range and endurance, weapons load, bring back capability, inferior recce capability – compared to RAPTOR… these are the sort of capabilities that were needed for long, sometimes lasting up to 9-10 hours at a time, deep strike sorties which usually turned into CAS missions at short notice while the aircraft were in the air. The Harrier was very capable, but it had limits. Those were the simple things he missed out in his “reports”.
There are truths about the Super Hornet, it’d obviously make a better Carrier/ship Air Defence aircraft way out to see because obviously it’s a Carrier-Based aircraft where as the Typhoon and Tornado obviously aren’t. It’s also, again obviously, a more capable A/G platform than Typhoon, currently. Tornado is also very capable in the A/G role… So there’s a lot of abilities the Super Hornet has where others lack for now. However, things ought to be looked at more closely, especially when Sharkey has been talking. Some people just like to see other services burn, he has that mentality.
That Warship “report” was from 2010 if I remember correctly, and the words from Sharkey Ward RN if I remember right as well. A chap that has a very special kind of hatred towards the RAF and anything it operates. He was once a top notch Fighter Pilot, scored 3 A/A kills during The Falklands War, however he’s rather deluded. Unfortunately.
so whats the best wvr missile for destroying air to air targets? there both in operation and there used alot. so whats the difference about the aim-120 and aim-9x?
If you’re in WVR and you still have all your AIM-120s, you’ve obviously done something wrong!
How patronizing… *Sigh*.
South Korea will purchase an aircraft (American) for political concerns, simple as. However, the F-15 is the best choice anyway when one considers commonality in a wide field of areas; local factories, weapons, training, ‘know-how’, familiarization and the integration to their network. It (not necessarily talking about the “Silent Eagle” since it isn’t flying yet) is more established than Typhoon and certainly more established than the F-35 regarding operational capabilities. But, I’m sure South Korea will follow Japan’s decision despite what Slowman/InternationalPirate claims.
One will have to see next month.
I haven’t received any warning from anyone. I made a point after being provoked, I thought was valid and I’m sticking to it.
Oh look. An RAAF F/A-18 with ASRAAM. How pretty…

Improves Eurofighter’s chances or will SK buy American whatever anyone else offers?
It’s a very attractive offer by EADS. But South Korea are going American I’m afraid.
