Unless I’ve missed it; I’m under the impression the UK haven’t decided on a final figure yet? Theres a possibility there’ll be additional orders of the F-35s to replace Tranche 1 Typhoons (not Tranche 2s or 3s), one of the last reports I learned from.

In recent excercises Typhoon’s pilots were able to get close enough to the F-22 to kill it.

What exercises were they then? Exercise Distant Frontier were 1v1 WVR engagements between Luftwaffe Typhoons and USAF F-22s. They were on the same side during Red Flag Alaska after that. Theres been nothing reported about Exercise Western Zephyr where RAF Typhoons were training with the F-22s and other American types, Red Flag 13-3 is currently ongoing.

Regarding the UAE and Typhoon, this is an interesting snippet;

With an heavy external load , the F-35 is almost not better than a 4th gen fighter and it ‘s gonna fly like a pig .

What advantages would the Super Hornet bring? Its hardly renowned for being a great kinetic performer in the first place let alone with a similar weapons load. The F-15E is naturally a bigger aeroplane than the F-35 so naturally theres more stations to hang weapons and drop tanks off of, neverless the initial mission requirements are rather different, aren’t they not.

I find it ironic and somewhat hypocritical, a few years ago you were one of the many moaning about people having a pop at Rafale in it’s early stages. Now this… :rolleyes:

No other 5th Generation Design is available to Europe. Plus, all of those European Countries (JSF Members) that have access. Support the fighter and it’s procurement…

… But are a bit iffy about costs and aren’t sure how many they want… because of the worrying costs… and some iffy technical problems here and there… as well as some very optimistic flight characteristics when compared to a certain European type… and the shedule regarding delivery…

The Royal Air Force (RAF) from the United Kingdom will deploy its Typhoon aircrafts to participate in the forthcoming Five Powers Defence Agreement Exercise 2013 (FPDA) and Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2013 in Malaysia, next month.

“An opportunity for each to work together, exploring the capabilities of respective aircraft types and further developing the warm relationship that they currently enjoy,” it said.

RAF Typhoon pilot, Flight Lieutenant Jamie Norris of 29 Squadron RAF (the Typhoon Operational Unit) said he was looking forward to putting the Typhoon through it’s paces.

“It will be an honour to display at LIMA and to have the opportunity to demonstrate some of the capabilities of the Typhoon. This will be my first visit to Malaysia and LIMA will give me the opportunity to meet the crowd and engage with fellow pilots.

“I’m aware that RAF and RMAF have exercised over many years and I look forward to the opportunity of sharing ideas and common practices,” he said.

Asraam is not a BVR missile as per say…

The Asraam/Meteor combo is perfect (I would like to see an IR Meteor too) .
This is the reason why the IR Mica is very usefull . When you are an adverse pilot and you study the French missile , you have to give the system a very good look because it is in itself a deadly threat at very long range . It can be fired very early in the fight , it has a great basket and acquisition range , it has excellent end game manoeuvrability and is flares resistant ..

Nobody is saying Mica IR isn’t useful. I just don’t see how Typhoon can be any better off with it, which you seem to think it would be, than (for the up’ teenth time) a Typhoon with ASRAAM & Meteor coupled with HEA, PIRATE/IRST and Captor-E. If ASRAAM lacked range and left quite a gap from its maximum range to Meteor’s minimal range then Mica would be better suited for Typhoon. But since ASRAAM doesn’t lack range and bridges the gap to Meteor, its a moot point depite Mica having a longer range. What you say in the quoted message above can be said for ASRAAM also.
