EELightningSix Austrian Eurofighter Typhoons are playing a major role in the “Amadeus12” exercise that began on 7th May and runs until May 16th in the region of Allentsteig, Lower Austria. The exercise, which will be the biggest for Austria in 2012, involves around 2,300 soldiers and 51 different types of aircraft.
Alongside the Austrian Eurofighters from Zeltweg Air Force Base in Styria, two German Eurofighter’s from JG 74 in Neuburg are participating in the exercise. The purpose of the training is to prepare for the military evacuation of EU civilians in times of crisis or conflict. The EU aircraft, be it military transporters or chartered commercial airliners are escorted to safety by combat ground and air assets. Only recently this has been demonstrated in Egypt and Libya. Eurofighter Typhoons are participating in “Amadeus12” to provide quick reaction air support to the EU aircraft as well as offering an unquestionale deterent to any potential aggressors.

EELightningYou must be aware of course of various tales f.e. a MiG-25 pulling 11 ( ELEVEN!) G in a critical situation (and still making it home ), or closer to you , the example of an F-15C pulling 12G during a MiG pursuit?
Pretty sure most if not all contemporary fighters outhere can pull more than 9 G in testing, or in an emergency.
They’re usually capable of doing so, hence why when we read upon various pieces about the aircraft’s performance figures they state 9+ G most of the time. Most, if not all, modern fighters today are limited for a number of reasons such as aircraft fatigue and saftey concerns for the pilot(s).
At some point or another most of us on here have probably came across Dare2/Thunder/Sampaix’s – or whatever he’s called this week – ramblings about how the scaled down version of God, Rafale can pull 11 or 12 Gs, and somehow this is somewhat unique. But in actual fact it really isn’t especially when one learns that the aircraft is totally clean with minimal internal fuel. I doubt it’d pull this many with a real world combat load. At a flick of switch modern day fighters are also capable of doing this also, obviously not his wonder world. More known as an ‘Emergency ‘G’ Override’ in Typhoon’s case, and the same for the F-22 if I’m not mistaken.
The old Blackburn Buccaneer had relatively low ‘G’ capabilites even by it’s days standards yet there was, apparantly, at least one occasion when one pulled some 13 Gs in an emergency – I believe to avoid colliding with their wingman if I remember correctly.

EELightningIndeed, Hotdog. Unfortunately for the Lightning it was frowned upon by the British Government and received very little funding for upgrades despite being conceived and retired during the Cold War, and of course being loved by the people that looked after and operated it.
Although with limits, it had a lot of potential. Even with the RAF’s bestest efforts to keep it up to date it was never to be upgraded as much as they would’ve liked it to have been. Neverless it was always respected as well as feared.
A cone moves forwards and backwards as the aircraft’s speed changes whereas bump intakes are immobile.
The cone on the Lightning didn’t and doesn’t move backwards and forwards at all.

Not necessarily always the case. The prototype, then known as P1A WG760 and early Marks such as the F1 now known as Lightning by time they came into service could supercruise. WG760 actually broke the sound barrier without reheat and reached Mack 1.01 a week after it’s initial flight, somewhat accidental it could be said. Later Marks of the Lightning would find it difficult to supercruise or couldn’t at all due to them having more avionics, weapons, drop tanks and larger capacity internal fuel, especially the F2A variant which carred some 10,300lbs of internal fuel which going by todays standards, is rather impressive. Yet still, despite being heavier they still had very impressive performance and it’s pilots were confident enough to pick fights with other aircraft and come out to be winners.

Its a shame, I wish it was still in service but it had to be retired sooner rather than later.

Regarding Francois Hollande’s victory, well firstly I couldn’t give a toss about French politics in general, but it’d be interesting to see/hear his view on this new 50 year military partnership with the UK. Its too early to judge especially since so many politicians the world over promise the Earth but never really stick by their word once they get into power. And, it’d be quite interesting to see how things would come along with exports etc, since as far as I can gather Hollande isn’t the most supportive chap regarding military related matters. Have to wait and see I guess.
So much for Sarky getting a deal in India to help boost his chances in winning. I bet he wished he hadn’t claimed the UK had no industry left now (which is bollox). Talk about bad Karma…

I’ve heard of Bond but never looked into them much, they’re very pretty though! Oooouf! 😀
Violins aren’t my forte, just Guitars and Basses & Amps etc. From what I know Strads are very, very expensive, the deep end of Hundreds to well over a few Thousand but from what I know they’re rather exclusive. However I believe there are a couple of base models going for a couple of hundred, maybe even cheaper but still, its a Strad, you know. Even the Bows can be expensive.
Electric Violins are quite something regarding sounds, I’ve heard one played before through a little 10 Watt amp and if I remember correctly I think it was called a Stagg? I’ve seen these priced at around £100 and I believe the price does get higher. The ones that Bond play could be a make called Bridge, they retail at around £700+ and I would imagine theres models that are cheaper. Yamaha could be another make Bond play too, but Yamaha being Yamaha, they tend to be very good quality and are usually reasonably priced and of course their instruments are played by a lot of professionals. They’re more than likely to have some in a starter pack too – Violin, amp, spare strings, tutorial booklet & DVD etc.
Thats as far as my knowledge with Violins goes I’m affriad. 🙂
I’ve just bought another Guitar today for my collection, tut-tut. But its really nice. I think it may be my main 7 stringer once I chance the pick-ups. 😀

EELightningThornado, you really need to look into things more or you really need to start if you haven’t, for both the Gripen and the Thunder. You’re being rather embarrassing.
Given China’s and Sweden’s history, experience and know-how of with fast jet miltary aviation regarding these two aircraft, I’d go for the Gripen every single time over that thing.
