Are you really asking that, Kovy? Such information, or speculations, aren’t that difficult to research if you look in the right places.

At the end of the day, Germany and the UK get what they deserve.

Like wise for France/Dassault pre India, remember? Despite having the products, they still couldn’t organise a p*ss up in a brewery & messed up so many potential deals, even deals where they were the only bid. They done no better than the UK or Germany. Actually, it could easily be said France done much, much worse in those countries than UK & Germany did in India. Remember one’s history, surely its not that easy to have a bit of brain fade, or maybe its certain parts of history one doesn’t want to think about…

Given the recent outcomes, I think all the countries in question have learned something and all of them have done so the hard way.

as long as they don’t bring in the Germans and Spaniards.. i could see it working.

I wouldn’t mind the Germans involved at all. Just as long as they’ve learn’t to cooperate more and are more willing. Same goes for others.

Matt, bar sub-systems & electronics etc. Physically, the most that could be done to the aircraft is the removal of the tail fin and adding TVNs to compensate. Anything like Conformal Weapons Bays would be pointless, ther just isn’t any room.

Just digged out Dave Morgan’s ‘Hostile Skies’, a reading from beginning to end is in order, me thinks. Great read. Much better than that “other one” from another well known (probably more than Dave Morgan, sadly) Shar pilot.

From what I’ve heard & read, Dave sounds like a top bloke. And very modest too it seems.

The Harriers weren’t outnumbered in the air when they encountered Argentinean aircraft.

On at least one occasion, Argentinean aircraft outnumbered the Shars at one point. There was a situation where four Argentinean aircraft were performing bombing runs on British troops coming into land from craft. Dave Morgan witnessed one of the crafts getting a direct from one of the Argentinean aircraft, Dave Morgan calmly stated after witnessing this; ‘This made me very angry, he was going to die, no doubt about it.’ But after he was getting into position to shoot him down, another, second, Argie aircraft threatened to drop in behind Dave, so he attempted to drop in behind the second Argie only to be threatened by a third. At this point Dave’s wingman spotted a fourth Argie aircraft and was engaging him and shot him down. Dave shot down two Argie aircraft including the one he wanted to kill. The fourth was very lucky, after Dave was lining him up for a guns kill Dave’s HUD went blank and had no aiming points to where to aim, neverless, he still tried for the kill but unfortunately missed and the fourth Argie aircraft made an escape.

By the end of The Falklands War, Dave Morgan was one kill away from being an ace.

The 2018 date (much beloved by some Rafale fans) refers to Typhoon being fully developed.

They like to believe that Typhoon will not have those capabilities by 2018. The usual lot are too dense to tell the difference between that and not being fully developed until 2018.

    >> Mr Cameron says he is absolutely committed to helping with the Eurofighter Typhoon project.

You say too much, but do so little.

Just shut up and pay the bills for:

    1. Integrating costs of Meteor BVRAAM, Storm Shadow, Spear, Brimestone, SDB etc. onto the Typhoon ASAP.

    2. Confirmatory developing and procuring productional CAPTOR-E AESA radar for Typhoon ASAP.

    3. Procuring Tranche IIIB Typhoons.

    4. Confirmatory future upgrading roadmap for Typhoon after 2015.

Then you are qualified to tell us that you are absolutely committed to helping with the Eurofighter Typhoon project.

You forgot Conformal Fuel Tanks. You might need more than 1,000 litres of external fuel on board if you want to carry 2,000lb class weapons. (Paveway III might fit onto the inner pylons (stations 7 & 8), however. They’re perfectly capable of carrying the weight. 2,800+lb each)

The RAF seem to be the only ones that want a lot of these capabilities integrated quite soon, the RSAF too for that matter, where as the other three Consortium Members seem to be dragging their ar$es a bit. Whats interesting though, as I just said the RSAF seem to be pushing too, in a lot of areas more so than the RAF, so if the RSAF want most, if not all, the capabilities the RAF will have then this could but pressure on the others to get a move on. Who knows…

Personally, I’d rather the RAF & RSAF work more closely together since they seem the ones that have, or will have, very similar weapons integrations. Bar ASRAAM, IRS-T, Litening III & few other things.

They’ve gotta have something to be proud of, lets face it, theres not much else going for them. Hence the cheap shot from Sarcozy about Great Britian having “no industry”, even a twit or two on here actually took his word for it. That reminds me, have to email Sarcy & his Cronies a couple of links from Rolls Royce Civil Aerospace, BAE Systems, remind them what this pokie little rock in the middle of the Atlantic can still produce; QE Aircraft Carriers, Type 45, 26, 27 war ships, Astute class subs, Rolls Royce Trent Class engines as well as other forms of propulsion by Rolls Royce and of course, bucket loads of equipment produced for Britian’s Armed Forces…Little, tiny things like that. *Sigh*

    Anyway, back on topic.

1228 Labour’s Graham Jones calls for a meeting on the future of BAE’s operations in the UK. Mr Cameron says he is absolutely committed to helping with the Eurofighter Typhoon project.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/9698518.stm

I’ll believe his words when I see Typhoon loaded with Storm Shadow during flight trials.

    ~

Coming off losses in Indian and Japan, the Eurofighter Typhoon consortium is now looking to the Middle East to build up its backlog of orders for the fighter.

The goal is to secure the sale of 12 Typhoons to Oman in September or October after January’s formal release of the request for proposals. The program is valued at more than £2 billion and could also trigger sales of additional Hawk trainers.

After receiving an RFP from the United Arab Emirates in November – following a falling out between the government and front-runner Dassault Aviation and its Rafale entrant – BAE Systems is preparing a full-fledged campaign in the country, suggests Alan Garwood, group business development director. The offering has received “big encouragement” from the UAE, Garwood tells financial analysts as the company released full-year results last week, noting there is “all to play for.” Boeing has also been briefing the UAE on the F/A-18E/F as a possible fighter choice.

BAE Systems also has its eye on a bid in Qatar and on Malaysia in Asia, but those competitions are not expected to intensify until later.

Meanwhile, discussions continue with Saudi Arabia over the follow-on contract for 48 more Typhoons on top of the 24 fighters already delivered. Assembly of those aircraft will now take place in the U.K., with Saudi Arabia opting for a maintenance and upgrade facility over a final assembly line. The Saudi government also plans to take the last 24 aircraft in a Tranche 3 configuration. One of the remaining issues to be sorted out in negotiations is price inflation, with the contract talks having been extended.

    Nice AAR pics. Cheers.

    This is Other Sensor systems

It’s a high speed camera used for seperation trials like the ones fitted inside the shells of external drop tanks.

India says: Rafale is better AND cheaper. Note: I don’t have access to any info about the technical trials to determine which scored the highest, but I’ll say “better” just to wave my little noodle about.

    Fixed that for you.

I posted this news over on Typhoon Starstreak a couple of weeks ago and I’m just as surprised now as I was then, on hearing the news.

As has already been pointed out, the US could replace various pieces of AMRAAM until theres nothing in common with the original apart from the actual shape. However, physically, theres only so much one can do to improve an A/A missile before nothing more can be done, and bearing in mind this is a BVR weapon where absolute range and NEZ performance is vital, and in AMRAAM’s case these will be areas where it’d be outclassed by the likes of Meteor. AMRAAM would need some major re-designs & upgrades for it to have any chances of even matching the likes of range, NEZ etc of Meteor, i.e. Ramjet propulsion for a start.

Saying that, I wouldn’t say all is rosy for Meteor as far as exports is concerned, meaning; Meteor being integrated onto US aircraft abroad. Simply put, the US would just block such an integration and leave no other choice but to fit AMRAAM. However, again, ‘Saying that’, that could also work against them so who knows what headaches this could bring.

BTW Jackonicko since you seem to have quite a bit of privileged knowledge poor lad like me don’t have, do you think you could provide me with an estimate cost of Rafale M vs Typhoon “M” ?

Why don’t you work on areas where you have no clue about rather than bringing up something that is irrelevant? You’re struggling enough as it is.

Oh Australia is worse, but we don’t pretend to be anything other than America’s bitch.

Again, ironic coming from someone from Ozzieland where they’re open about being a bitch.

Disclaimer: I’m French & in favour of the Rafale (and know more of this aircraft than of the Typhoon). Nevertheless, I try to be objective/non partisan when comparing both fighters.

A very honest post you’ve just written there, AlphaZulu. Just the kind I like to be involved in without any bickering & if there is any disagreements, theres neutral respect to agree to disagree.

Sadly, the same really can’t be said for the narrow-minded ‘Usuals’ that can’t take the merest criticisms that might put their beloved fighter in a negative light, but are quick to point another fighter’s weakness & feed off whatever it or they may be. Simply put, an honest discussion is near impossible without “someone” throwing a pathetic hissy fit.

Shame some people weren’t as open-minded as you, AlphaZulu.

BTW this goes both ways for the brits and the french. Both would be better served with their own projects.

    Nic

Hmmm yes, both will be better served fighting their own wars too. Can’t always rely on one of them…Mention no names. :diablo:

    In serious mode*

Why shouldn’t France and Great Britian co-operate on some projects? If both countries are going to work together as far as military matters in concerned for the next 50+ years, then it’d make sense in quite a few ways. Both countries just need to agree on things like upgrading, whatever it is, without having to rely on the other, if that other doesn’t feel the need for upgrades for their own.

The Register, Nopia? Is that the best you can come up with? Only narrow-minded members with a special kind of hatred for the Typhoon would believe rubbish by Lewis Page, whom of which has a special kind of hatred for the RAF and anything linked with it.

You might want to read Sintra’s post. Unlike you, he didn’t only look at the £70,000 figure and take it for granted & just didn’t bother to read the rest. He quoted the part you “conveniently” missed.

    Here it is again:

“The MoD calculates the full cost of aircraft per flying hour; the current rates for our fast jets are shown below. These figures include forward and depth servicing, fuel costs, crew costs, training costs, cost of capital charge, depreciation and amortisation. The Typhoon cost per flying hour reflects the build-up of the fleet with small numbers of aircraft currently in service. This cost will comparatively reduce as the fleet builds and is expected to be similar to our other fast jet fleets when we reach a steady state position.”

It helps to read things. Then again, some people are just too ignorant.
