and a few more…..
interested . . . ? you bet. . .
09R and 27L are the same bit of tarmac – just opposite “ends” – so if the winds are westerly then it’ll be a 27L arrival (which from what I can work out will be the departure runway for other traffic), and if it’s easterly then it’ll be a 9R arrival (which again will be the departure runway!)
hth
as I understand it – the aircraft will land on the “southerly” runway – ie 09R or 27L . . .
according to the FAQs it will ONLY be on DVD . . . . .
Looks good doesn’t it?
indeed. . . Mr. Ray Hanna . . . . .
a God amongst display pilots – frankly I would have paid £20 to watch his display of MH434 ALONE . . . . . . yes, sure he flies low, but that’s not the main “attraction” – he seems to somehow have complete “communion” with the aeroplane and seems able to put it into exactly the right “places” to make it look like the icon it is . . . .
And as Brendan O’Brien pointed out on commentary – Ray is nearer 80 than 70. . . . . . if I can fly to even 1% of Ray’s ability at 70 something then I will be a happy man . . . .
And for me a statement of how watchable his display is must be the fact that all eyes around me were focused on that Spitfire – from the BBMF fighter pilots, thru the “avid” enthusiasts to simple Mrs. Joe Public with three screaming kids – a more “total” appeal than even the ubiquitous Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team (!) and a spontaneous round of applause as Ray climbed out of the cockpit at the end. . . .
Mr. Hanna . . . . to you sir . . . . . RESPECT . . . . .
These images aren’t great – but may be of use . . . .

and the Delta’s on their own . . . .

and a few more . . . .
I didn’t think Single engine aeroplanes are allowed over Centre of London???
In theory yes – but it’s not stopped the Reds or the BBMF fighters in the past . . . .
Well I have a 2 or 3 differnt lenses – these were all taken using the Canon 75-300 USM AF lens, which whilst not top notch seems to be working OK for me so far.
As for location I went to “Royal Albert” on the DLR and just walked down to the north side of the dock roughly abeam the 10 threshold. No-one else about for the hour or so I was there. Great views of the apron etc. – and the 10 approach – I guess it wouldn’t be quite so good if they’re on 28, but still worth a go. But I wouldn’t take a car – just do it via public transport then you’ve no parking hassles.
that is a shame . . . . I was only there for an hour at around 4pm . . .
oh well – can’t win ’em all . . . .
and my final couple . . .
just discovered how to attach thumbnails (more user friendly me thinks) – so here are a few more. . . .
(it’s all one big learning curve isn’t it!!!)
and a few more . . . .

What lens were you using?
Good question . . .
a Canon EF 75-300mm USM zoom lens (2nd hand)
oh, and here’s one more vaguely viewable picture, again not historic as such, BUT IT IS A MERLIN!!! 😀 (I shall get sacked for jokes like that!)

(shame about the telegraph wires)
