Good news on the Su-27IB (Su-34). 🙂
Spitfire or Mustang.
The RAAF still have AIM-7 in inventory I believe for the F/A-18s. Although the AIM-120 will eventually edge it out of service.
(p.s. Visit the Check SIx forum sometime. http://www.checksixmag.com/forums/)
Forward basing is always going to be needed I think even with a large bomber. It would help maximise the sortie rate, and reduce the political hassle of over-flight rights. The Diego Garcia basing of the three big-Bs during Op Enduring Freedom was a good example. Perhaps the FB-22/23 could be used as an interim stop-gap design as the B-1 and B-52 are slowly retired from active duty, which I think is still some time away. Once the need for a new ‘heavy’ supersonic stealth bomber is paramount, the FB-22/23 could then remain and fill the gap left by the F-15E and F-117 when they too retire. Just a thought.
the cockpit could do with some sexing up. are the radar consoles
onboard or on the ship ?
I think compared to one of it’s cousins like the Ka-32 the cockpit is not too bad. The use of MFDs is extensive and the layout appears pretty clean. The Ka-31 is a radar picket, so the radar images are linked back to the parent ship.
Something based on an existing stealth design, but not a beast. Either the FB-22 or FB-23. With smart weapons getting, well, smarter, and smaller, I don’t see the need for giant – and expensive – cold war style bombers anymore. A new tactical/theatre type manned bomber with an unrefuelled combat radius of up to 1,000nm maybe more, and loaded internally with 1,000lb warhead mini-JASSM and/or 250lb SDBs could potentially deliver twice as much as two currently configured F-15Es over twice the distance.
I would like a 1/48th B-36 Peacemaker.
At 4.8ft in wingspan, and 3.38ft in length, it will for sure need its own desk for display. 🙂
air2air.net,
More great shots! Tell me, what are you flying in when you take these photos?
Glenn
I like your idea of wingtip rails… often the max war load figure is focused on without looking at the actual weapons that can be carried at once.
Thanks Garry. Glad someone likes what I have done. With that, why not have wing tip mounted R-77 in the same fasion the F-16 has AIM-120. Potential R-77 load could be as many as 10 with each wing have 4 hardpoints and the wing tip. See below.
The Russian equivalent to the LIGHTENING or ATFLIR?
Mum, Mum…..the tank ran over my sand castle! :p
If you look hard enough you will probably find just about every aircraft type has been modelled by someone in some country at some stage. There are Eastern European brands that model some bizarre and lesser known subjects.
What dent Glenn?
Ok, I have worked out that its not a dent, but looks like one. Its actually a small hump that appears on both sides in the same place. But, what is it?
Great to see another Aussie! 🙂 Welcome! 😀
GDL – do you mean the Japanese lost the war, or they lost Pearl Harbor? I think the latter was an overwhelming victory for them, which is probably why the Japanese filmmakers were so keen to co-operate on Tora, Tora, Tora.
Dave, of course I mean they lost the war. Pearl Harbour was the perfect surprise, but a failed mission anyway. They missed the carriers, and most of the BBs that were sunk were raised and repaired. They also missed bombing the dry docks.
