Also saw the Bond film – thought it was poor. None of the things that make a Bond film a Bond film were there. No ‘Q’, no gadgets, little humour. Story was weak and disjointed. Best ‘chase’ was early on and the poker game went on way too long.
Change the characters names and it would have just been another mediocre action film.
Would I see it again – no. Will I see another with DC as Bond – no
barrythemod – can I bill you 😉
You posted an interview with Leahy in which he raised various concerns including repairability. Another (well known Airbus basher at every opportunity) referrred to this as ‘el torro poo poo’ – which is a definate ‘bash’ imo.
Used to be a common sight at my local with HP Heralds / Emb110’s in the early days and with F27/F50/F100/Hs146 as time progressed. Managed to fly on a Herald to Jersey in 1982 (i think) – what a noisy aircraft that was!
Airlines are only risking a small amount of money compared to the development costs that boeing are risking + i am sure the airlines have ‘get out’ clauses should things not go to plan
do you know something about composite repairability then ? or (as usual) taking any opportunity to have a go at Airbus. If boeing made the same statement I bet you would be first in line to justify it.
Any damage to a metal skin panel can easily be patched or even the skin replaced (there are limits to the number / size of patch allowed) – how will a composite one piece fuselage cope with repairs that will need doing over a lifetime. There are numerous pictures on various sites showing aircraft damage from ground vehicles / other aircraft etc – composite aircraft will not be immune from such incidents.
If enough damage is caused (by whatever means) to a composite then there will come a point where it is not viable to repair it or its structural integrity is such that safety is compromised and that point will come much sooner than on a metal skinned aircraft.
How are signs of fatigue monitored on a composite ? – unlike metal there are few external signs that there is a problem internally and a problem may only be seen when something has failed and that could be too late.
Airbus are imho right to be cautious when dealing with composites – if boeing want to carry on then fine and they may pick up the rewards but they are also taking all of the risk.
History often repeats itself and I am thinking of the Dh comet which was a big jump in technology but initally flawed. By the time the problem was resolved – it was too late and the UK aircraft industry never really recovered.
The lessons learned from the comet have benefited aircraft design ever since.
Have seen the 2007 prices from Corgi – ouch! big price increases.
Agree Corgi do not do small non global airlines yet produce models with only a very limited range of operators
Yes – it has been renamed to Frederick Chopin now. I did not use the ‘old’ terminal though rather the purpose built ‘shed’ Etuida terminal which is for the likes of Easyjet / Wizz / Sky Europe etc. The new terminal is nearing completion and will certainly be a big improvement to the facilities.
Jamie,
thanks for the comments. Most taken with Canon 20D + 100-400IS lens – a good combination but even at 100mm was too large for anything over an ‘exec jet size’ that passed in front of terminal. (too cold to change lenses)!
Makes a change to see another Q400 operator other than Flybe at my local.
There were other CASA 295’s of the Polish AF + a Tu154 but these turned up after dark – along with the Romanian Govt BAC1-11 which arrived and departed in the dark.
Dusseldorf is worth going to – excellent photographic facilities with a good variety of traffic. Am going there on 17th Nov.
Did you photograph LH A320 D-AIPC as I was on that when it arrived ?
If you can go then it is worth it – this was my 5th visit and if somebody offered me an air ticket it would be my number 1 destination every time. CLK is a fantastic airport, excellent transport links especially the airport express. You can check in baggage at either the Kowloon or Hong Kong Island stations, get boarding passes etc and then you can do what you want without having a suitcase in tow.
BMI-star – did you meet up with any of the local enthusiasts ?
BMI-Star – glad you liked the pic – wx was very hazy which did not help.
Kevinwm – the aircraft on approach were shot from the HAECO maintenance area which is not a bad place for a morning when using 07’s. To get here take the MTR to Tung Chung then bus S52 (make sure it says aircraft maintenance on the front) These run approx every 20mins and cost 4 HK$ so either have pleanty of change (exact money only accepted) or get an octopus card which should be valid on bus & MTR.
Pics taken with Canon 20D + 100-400 lens. All others taken with 17-85 lens.
Aircraft heading right to left taken from terminal end on the same day. Take S52 back to Tung Chung then S1 to airport (3.5HK$)
First pic is from inside departures whilst waiting for return flight.
DC3 is at Cathay City (reg VR-BDA but is actually RP-C1101 i think)
Aircraft engines are from seat 3C on D-AIGZ LH340 (same plane on return as well)!
Night shot from Victoria Peak – stunning views.
No idea but it was in early Saturday so I guess it was a drop off with a pick up yesterday
