I PM’ed a moderator about merging the two Argosy threads but nothing came of it.

    RAF Argosy Photos
When I took over the Argosy website I set myself the task of getting a photo of all 56 aircraft. Thanks to the help of many photographers on the internet I only have 5 to go. XN818, XP410, XP440, XR133 and XR141. Can anyone help.

    Argosy Air-dropping
RPM gave a great description of MSP (medium stressed platform) dropping. Was there also one called SSP? If so what was it. Or is my memory failing me.

    Argosy Supply Dropping Pictures

The only ones I know of are in Roger’s book. It’s also a good read.

    Another query on modified Argosys.

XR137 with an extra radome. Can anyone explain that?

I see that RPM sorted out the nose door query on the other thread – I concur.

If anybody doesn’t know what we are on about here is a pic.

The reason I posted it was because I noticed that the bomb aimers window on c/n 6779 – XP447 – N1430Z is different to the standard. It was not like that when it was on 215 Squadron.

447 was converted to T Mk2, is that part of the conversion. So that two navs could lie side-by-side!

    Argosy boom/Meteor fuselage
This one has been around for a long time, I first heard it when I was posted to Benson in 1964. whether it is true or an aviation myth I do not know. Phil also discusses the “itsy-bitsy” nature of the Argosy on this page.

    Argosy E MK1
What was the difference between the C Mk1 and the E Mk1. Maybe Papa Lima would comment, as he worked on them.

    Argosy T Mk2
As far as I can see externally the only distinguishing feature of the T2 was it’s larger nose cone. Interestingly out of all the Argosys up for disposal at the time Otrag Range Air Services choose to buy two of the three T2’s. Maybe the different radar was an attraction. Does anyone have any information on this subject.

    Hi Kev

Thanks for that info – amazing rapid response. I see that this subject came up on this forum in 2003. I am in touch with Gordon’s sister, thats where I got the photos from, at one point in our conversation she said that Gordon was carrying a VIP on his last flight but I did not pursue that line of inquiry.

Gordon was Dereham born and breed. His parents went to Canada after the war. Sister still lives in Dereham.

I will speak to sister again after the New Year.

I have an article about Richard Murdochs time at Swanton Morley in my scrapbook. I have put it online, you can view it here.

Nope, had Cowes a while back, I think. I’ll recap for you – an unusual Spitfire variant flew from there, it’s on an island, interesting means of getting aircraft into the hangar, not in England… I think that is all the clues so far?

    Adrian

EDIT: I can see I’m going to have to pop in over the weekend to see how this goes! One last clue – A********e Monthly published a photo a few years back of a Coronado here…
