If they are forced to fly they will probably fly East or West and defect or eject. They know the score, I have no doubt whatsoever

If you drive round the UK motorways as much as I do, it was clear that something has been going on as I have been seeing RAF trucks and vehicles all week and you hardly ever see them at all normally

It will be a Golden Opportunity for the RN and the French Navy to live fire the Sea Viper as well, as some of the more sensitive Rebel held areas subject to Libyan air attack attack are on the Med.

The way I read the Resolution, ‘all necessary measures’ the RN could use Brimstone against tanks on the ground if they were threatening civilians.

Re the debate about an RAF deployment. While travelling down the M6 and M1yesterday there was a very large convoy of RAF Articulated trucks heading south carrying lots of Airfield ground operations equipment, indeed what looked to be nearly enough to operate a whole squadron remotely. I can’t remember the last time I even saw an RAF road convoy, let alone one with so much equipment. It looked like the early stages of getting everything together for a deployment somewhere.

Have all the MRA4’s now been totally scrapped or is it just the ones that were not yet complete ?

So what chance that a Nimrod is in the area operating out of Cyprus ? Apparently they don’t all officially stand down until 31st March

So do we know if any of them have gone to the Med this week ? It wouldn’t surprise me if they had. Just the kind of situation that the R1 was made for.

Apparently the escorting Typhoon did a quite spectacular airshow style pull away from Stansted.

I am hearing that the incident is over – possibly rowdy passengers ? It was parked at the hazardous aircraft stand but is now being moved.

Surely the number of icebreakers available for charter with hanger parking for two Lynx must be somewhat limited ?

Perhaps someone is confusing Rivet Joint and JSTARS which is far closer to the R1. Mind you JSTARS is apparently hardly being used either either dispite what one might think was a good opportunity in Afghanistan.

Maybe there is something out there in the Black world that is better for current commitments ? They have always refused to explain what the new Shadow R1’s role is, perhaps there is some similar or complimentary capability there ?

Do all the engines on a C17 rotate the same way, perhaps something like that ?

Are they kept in the RAF inventory for use if required ?

Is the Kawasaki XC2 in the same class or is that considered to be a class higher ? It doesn’t get a lot of coverage but presumably its available for export ?

And of course it is flying

Lindermyer, I think I agree with you. If the article in todays Sydney morning Herald is accurate (blaming a faulty oil pipe rather than a design problem) then yes this could have happend to almost any engine.
