Yes there are at least two

    Dave

I visited the Finnish storage hanger only a few years back where they are held and I can confirm there are at least two Blenheim 1 noses. One was stored high up in the hangar on racks the other had more of the fuselage attached and was stored on the floor of the hangar with the nose pointing upwards. In the same hangar at that time was a fully assembled Blenheim IV. I do have slides but I’ll need to track them down amongst the 700K+ in my records. Can’t search just now due to serious family health probs but will do so in next few months if that helps you?

    Re Lasham

On 5 Jan in this thread I already said I had shots at Lasham (any many other yards) I would post in the future but no-one seemed interested.

It was still stored dismantled and partly restored when I visited about 6 weeks ago.

I’ll share them when I can!

Scrapyards used to be a fascinating attraction – especially before Health & Safety started to be so OTT.

Having been interested in vintage aircraft since the late 1950s I visited many of the UK’s aviation yards and usually took photos. Examples include:
Failsworth (Fireflies, Swifts, Nepune bits, Balliols, Provosts, Meteor , Hornet wing etc etc), Lasham (Sea Furies, Sea Hawks, S-51, Canberra, Sabres, DC-3 etc.), Camberley or Ascot (Harvards), BKL Alloys Kings Heath, Birmingham (Valiants, Beverly, Lincoln etc), Brownhills ? (Sabre, Princess bits, Dove, Argosy), yard in Scotland (Avenger parts), Shawbury dump (Ansons, Shackletons, Beverleys, Hastings, T. Pin etc)., Slough area? Scimitar, Malta (I know its not in the UK!) Valletas, DC-3s etc, USA (F-84s) …………….

Family health problems prevent my being able to get the time to retrieve the b&w negs and colour slides from deep store at present but hopefully I’ll get some out later this year to share.

No. None are listed in the definitive work “Suomen Ilmavoimien Lentokoneet 1918-1993” authored by Kalevi Keskinen & Kari Stenman , which provides comprehensive data on all machines operated by the FAF.

    Bushmaster no joking matter

This accident was very serious and according to reports in the press two crew remain critical with burns. A prior poster making jokey remarks about the aesthetics of the machine and it’s comparable value to Spitfire hardly demonstrates awareness of and sesitivity towards the human tragedy still unfolding.

    Anson identity

    PL

Sorry for delay but I had archived the data. I’ve since delved into my e-Mail correspondence with BCAM. After I visited the restoration in Summer 03 I contacted them to seek the origins of the Anson. They confirmed it was indeed a composite but there was some doubt about the identity of the donor aircraft. The potential identity of one of the machines involved was found marked on the inside of one of the cowlings but the letters and digits (FB846) didn’t conform to any Anson serial block. I researched sources and suggested that FP846 was more likely as it was a an ex 15SFTS Anson once at Claresholme Alb. and SoC in Oct 46. To try to confirm this BCAM then removed the other cowling and re-evaluated the remnants of the paint to be found there. They were able to confirm it was indeed FP846. They confirmed that they found this background information very useful and I’m delighted to see it’s since been painted as FP846. All credit, however, must go to BCAM for obtaining and beautifully restoring this machine – my involvement in helping clarify an identity was miniscule.

    SM1019

Excellent views PL – sadly all were indoors when I visited the museum last year. Fortunately I was subsequently able to help with tracking the true identity of the Anson during some subsequent research back in the UK.

The ex ItAF SM1019 is not a visitor – it’s been at Sidney for at least a year – I photographed it in the same position in Summer 03.

    Ex NZ P-51

ZK-CCG perhaps, which went to the US as N921 and I recall seeing it in the museum at Tamiami FL, the airframe being painted as Cripes All Mighty 3rd or something similar. That Museum was hit by a hurricane in the early 90s but the machine was restored again and I assume is still owned by KW.

Excellent shots Papa Lima – did you photograph the B-25 assuming it still sits alongside the C-47 and C-45 ? If so any chance of posting it as I couldn’t get a close look when I vsited a couple of years back?
