Certainly looks like some BE2 stuff in there.

So in a year that is going to generate a huge interest in all things WW1 they are going to close the building with the majority of WW1 airframes in it!!!! Whose bright idea was that?????
Surely this building work hasn’t just suddenly come up, could it not have been done this winter so the building was open for the Centenery of the Start of The Great War, at least get it open again by August surely.

Fitting them into a warbird would be an issue…. but not on a WW1 replica. I believe a recently-built Triplane in the UK has propane Spandaus….?

There are no Triplanes that I know of in the UK with propane guns??

One would presume so, although time will tell. It was encouraging to hear from those doing the work, during the recent Michael Beetham Centre open house, that it is being done to airworthy standard.

Rumours abound that she will fly again before going to Hendon.

Hi Blue Max, we of course know each other! Happy New Year to you and yours.
One of my Shuttleworth Collection colleagues briefed me on our fabulous Bristol Fighter, a 1918 original. His parting words to me as I strapped in were, ‘ Land into wind. If you aren’t into wind you soon will be!’
    HP

And a very Happy New Year to you to HP, yep pretty much the same for all this era of aeroplane, replica or not. Hopefully catch up in the New Year.

    Tricky aeroplane….
Landing out of wind on a first flight, especially with a tailwheel instead of a far more effective skid…Testicular wheelbarrow required for the pilot.
A tricky aeroplane that will end up on its back in a heartbeat, as happened here ‘Up over’ during the season in similar conditions. Be careful with it guys.
    HP

Indeed wise words. As someone with many hrs in the beast I would be wary of one with a tail wheel and would always treat it as an into wind aeroplane.

Yes, but most of the DR1 replicas are painted in a shiny red. This one is nearly the correct darker colour tone. Congratulations, it looks fantastic!

Looks a shinny red to me 🙂

I agree. I really have no time for anyone who put historic aeroplanes at risk by using them to carry out these kind of stunts.

A big thumbs down from me.

Oh here we go again, so can you please tell us which historic (not to sure you can put a tiger moth in that one really anyway) you own and fly and what experience of flying such that you have?????
Not something I would recommend for sure but clearly someone very experience at what they do and great to see.

As it happens BM, against all the odds, there are very serious and advanced talks between the CAA and ‘industry’ representatives (HAA and others) to promote ‘Venture aviation’ along the lines of Part 115 of the New Zealand regulatory framework, whereby you can now pay for rides in Spits, P40’s, Mustangs etc, and this was seen to happen at Wanaka this year.

This is not ‘bar talk’ or ‘blue sky thinking’, but a rapidly advancing dialogue which could reasonably see warbird rides in B.17, Catalina and fighters within 24 months or less.
There are a lot of changes presently going on in the CAA, where change has been forced upon them, and new staff appointments have brought with them new attitudes and a willingness to promote Venture aviation within the UK.

The sad Mustang loss in Texas will not help this momentum, but those parties promoting these changes are very motivated to make it happen, and the omens are very promising.

Prop strike I am fully aware of the motions that are happening and have Ben party to the proposals. However even if these talks come to fruision, which I do hope they do, they will not allow for you to drop into an airfield in your Stearman or Tiger Moth and set up your stall to sell rides, nor should they. The aircraft that can be used for ” air experience” is the main thrust, some form of AOC operation will still be required.
