    When filming the “Wings” TV series a particular sequence had been filmed and the rushes were being viewed, for one shot the dirrector said that the model did not look real and would have to bee filmed again, it was then pointed out to him that infact that was the only real aeroplane in the whole sequence!! it being PPS’s Eindecker!
    It realy very much depends on how all these different options are filmed, cut, edited etc. I think that with the correct option being used for the shot required a excellent result could be achived.
    The important thing is that it would bring the story to a whole new generation who will not bother to watch B&W movies.

    [QUOTE=XN923]

    I defy anyone to create footage with a squadron of Lancasters thundering across the landscape at 60ft with models. Yes, I agree, you can do fantastic things with models. Furthermore, I’d far rather models than CGI on its own (though as Daren points out, these days, CGI or digital compositing and models can work very well together). However, I maintain that there are some things that can’t be done realistically with models, period. Models can do a hell of a lot to enhance flying sequences but they can’t do everything, neither can CGI. You need a mix of all three, and a remake of The Dambusters would lack real aircraft – so whats the point?

    …And you’re not telling me that the model sequences in 633 Squadron are as good or better than the real thing are you?

    OK, sticks toe in water here! corect me if im wrong but wasnt there only 3 flying Lancs used to film the original”Dambusters”? we have two flying and one ground taxiable. The money generated by such a movie could produce another ground taxiable and maybe even get “Just Jane2 Airborne!!! you never know, if the budget was there who knows. As for models, i think compareing modern R/C models with the very primative control line models of “633 Squadron” is a bit like comparing the PC that you are looking at now to a Type writer!

    As you say, its only a entertainment prog and not to be talken to seriosly! at onr point i do remember thinking” he would go alot quiker if he put the flaps up!!!” I GUESS THE CAMERA SHIP COULDNT KEEP UP!!!! As you say a £850,000 car couldnt be seen to be beat by an old 182! if they had spent £850,000 on an aeroplane as well it would have been a differnt result!
