I wonder if they could find a Tiger Moth that went in the Irish sea 30 years ago!!!

When we got the wing on loan from the RAFMuseum I seem to remember being told the three mainplanes were all the same – ie upper (port or starboard?). Can anyone confirm this? The Siskin was a sesquiplane so the lower mainplanes are considerably smaller.

Coincidentally, at the same time (I think) we got several bits from an RE8 that are also on display in the “Wings Over Coventry” gallery. I wonder why the opportunity wasn’t taken to incorporate these in the ‘new’ example RE8 produced in New Zealand – as were, I read, some Sopwith Snipe parts included in the Snipe?

    Roger Smith.

I think the difference is Roger that the Snipe was never going to be a flyer from the outset and so incorporated many original parts. If you have had a close look at it did you notice the interplane struts for a start!!

Last I heard all the guys had been laid off and Tim was there on his own, that was back end of last year.
Many times they have built the rudder of something to get someone interested enough to fund the rest!! Thats what they did with the Dove.

Statement retracted. None of those claims I made about myself are true. James Bond was never a QFI.

    How Strange!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the DP front I spoke with him last summer and he was good, still flying at 87 but no longer allowed to instruct 🙂

Disagree. This incident was caused by a respected and experienced pilot discounting the risks; he ought not to have been flying VFR in those conditions. Why he chose to do so will probably never be known, but as I said in an earlier post rotary and fixed wing aircraft quite often fly over or near to my house in North Harrow, scudding in very marginal conditions with Harrow Hill just to the south. The practice ought to be stopped.

What Aeroplane??? Can make a big difference, not sure you will get the best out of a 0360 with a ground adjustable. My choice would be MT.

Im sure with lots of searching around the world something could have been found but you need to live in the real world and work within a given budget.
I didnt see it but im sure as has been said, the remit was for a liason type A/C and the Auster fitted the bill, looked from the period and did the job in the context of the piece.

Thanks Jayce, does this mean that it is an original WW1 prop or a later manufacture for replica aircraft?
Will do Matthew give us a call at Baldonnel sometime you happen to visit Dublin

Thanks Tony, it was sent to me by a chap who worked as art director on one of the films. By what you are saying if it does indeed turn out to be a WW1 German prop it stronly points to it coming from Blue Max or one of the other films, you only have to watch the film to see the stuff that was used as set dressing.
Say Hi to Michael for me 🙂
