And my father in the cockpit of the same A/C durring filming in Ireland, these A/C are old freinds 😉
I dont think it would be off of one of the BM flying A/C Tony, they all had “Modern” props. The DVII’s in particular had metal fairey reed props. It could well be from one of the statics or from set dressing, there was alot of stuff used in the back ground etc for the sets. It could even be one that someone at the time picked up when filmimg had finished as a trophy 🙂
I think they are saying it is to become bi-annual but its going to be harder to do that I would think as it looses momentum.
TA
Not always the case, Sywell Airshow has bee Bi – Annual since we started in 2006 and has gone from strength to strength. People now know that it is and plan accordingly taking in other shows when Sywell is not on. We release the date nice and early, usualy the year before and with the next one in 2014 the interest is allready there now!
Give people what they want and they will come.
Great site, was not aware of that! I guess the next question is how (if it is indeed a D VII prop) did it manage to get to Baldonnel?
‘anti-clockwise-rotating tractor propeller’ – yep; the direction the prop turns is taken from the cockpit looking forward.
Tony, it as others have said does look WW1 vintage and indeed it does look from the pics like a DVII Prop. May I suggest that it is infact nothing to do with A/C flown by IAC and actaually it is a remnant someone aquired from the films made at Baldonnel and Weston in the sixties early seventies. As you and I know the IAC was heavily involved in these films such as Blue Max etc.
The flying one looked like Carlson’s, the static look to me like the Brooklands Mike Beech built one ????
DH support ltd at Duxford can supply a drawing, alternatively if you want a panel I can supply a new CNC cut one .
Was it POD flying ?? Glad pilot s ok, aeroplanes can be repaired.
FAST would be an appropriate home, have you tried RAFM ??
Im living only five miles up the road from it now and was there recently, the ‘runway’ didn’t look long enough to my untrained eye? Anyone know what the flying plan is?
Plenty for an empty Lanc, aprt from the grass the is a huge paved area at the eastern end. I suspect they would do the first hop into conningsby.
The Pantons getting the tail up on their Lanc isnt quite the same as the ‘Victor’ taxi from a few years ago, Many of the ‘fast taxi’ airframes get their nose wheels off the tarmac during their runs, its the same really just different! once a tail dragger gets a certain amount of speed up the tail will automatically lift as the wing takes on its optimum angle. The main wheels are still firmly on terra firma, though i must say id love to see the Lanc put in the odd ‘bounce’ shall we say?
Question, are you a pilot?? If so what of???
As far as “Just Jane” getting airborne them all power to the Patton’s, love to see it and I wish them all the luck in the world.
I think they meant no “heavies” on main targets.
Full moon, no other raid’s.
Well my 9 year old is sitting watching it and is totaly enthralled, very upset about the dog!!
He allready knows the story but thinks that they ought to make a new film!!!! Funny that 😀
And of course WLR was flying a BE2 when he won his VC 🙂 He was also an instructor at RFC Rendcomb.
I take it the drawings you have are the same as the one’s listed on WW1 Aero ?
You could try Brooklands, they have the Mike Beach built example so may have the drawings he used ??
