Nearer Benidorm, Spain (in 1978) than Southend – but enjoy anyway!

Some discussion of the Rothmans Aerobatic Team to be found HERE: http://www.pprune.org/aviation-history-nostalgia/111405-rothmans-aerobatic-team-others.html

The Team existed from 1972 to 1980, when Rothmans decided to moved their sponsorship money into Formula 1 motor racing (although they continued to sponsor a single Pitts S-2A until 1982)

However, the most direct answer to you post is

Apart from the occasional display by the Red Arrows including one in 1978 and displays by the Rothmans Aerobatic Team in the early 1980s there a break of some 74 years before a full blown airshow was to be seen on the seafront in 1986

Webpage about Southend Airshows 1986-2011 at http://www.southendtimeline.com/southendairshow.htm

The Team was going in 1970 with the Stampe’s, and a break of 74 years ?????

    Low & Slow, thats Manx.

I have no problem with airshows being run for profit. I will happily part with my entrance fee for Old Warden knowing that the profit goes back into maintaining the collection. The problem for me is that partly due to an increase in running costs airshow prices have risen sharply in recent years but my wages have remained pretty static.
I actually have significantly less take home pay now than I did 10 years ago when it was about £12 – £15 to get in to a display at Old Warden!
The increased admission charges combined with huge increases in petrol costs mean that I simply can’t afford to visit so many shows now and unfortunately I don’t see this changing in the forseeable future.

This years Sywell Show is £15 if you buy your ticket early, and thats for a three and a half hrs display including the Red Arrows. Non profit making as all the profits go to the local Air Ambulance.
Although to be perfectly honest reading most of the posts here I wonder why we bother!!
If you are not happy with whats on offer then try running your own, maybe then you will understand the costs and hard work and hasell that is involved in putting a show on.

Has anything been actualy built yet??? Just wondering as there is a count down to completion running??? Also I would think that for such a complex project 4 years is very optimistic. Good luck with it.

The registration can be transfered to another aircraft as long as the machine it came from no longer wears those markings i.e its cancelled.

UK registrations that were allocated but never taken up used to be able to be reissued. When we brought Ian Castles Tiger into the counrty it was issued with G-AGPK having never been UK registered before. This had been originaly allocated to a Lancastrian but never taken up. This process was however stopped shorlty after this and is now not allowed:(
Daft really because there are loads of period registrations never used that are now not available hence many go for a G-E registration for that period look 😀
planes im not sure you fully grasp how an N reg A/C is opperated in the UK;)

Spoke with Cliff on the radio as he departed to report the stuck Port gear, he replied that it did that now and again and that it had now gone fully up! He didnt seem unduly worried 😀
