If this is a case of Swaping the A/C due to lack of funds, then why not offer the A/C concerned to UK based company’s in exchange for the A/C required??? As others have said there is more than enough skill base in the UK. Dont get me wrong, TVAL do a super job but they are not the B all and end all of WW1 A/C reproduction. The UK has a huge skill base that would be glad of the work.
As far as the RAFM restoration staff go i am sure that they are more than capable as work they have allready done shows, the loverly Dolphin a case in point. They are however only human and can only do so much, because A/C are in store does not mean they canot restore them, just that they havent got to them yet!!
As for the original question of whether or not the Snipe or RE8 would fly in the UK? A small matter of the correct airworthiness paperwork would I think put paid to that!
As far as the argument re replica’s is concerned, what you have to remember is that these “Originals” are aproaching 100 years old so you are prety nieve to think that it s still all original!! A snipe made in NZ containing many original parts is more than likely far more “Original” than some of the flying examples you see today at OW or else where. As far as I am concerned I am just pleased to see any of these great war A/C being built, whether a replica, reproduction or Original. I prefere to see them in their element of fight but anything that brings them into the public gaze as we approach the 100th aniversary of the 1914-18 war has to be good news. Its time the general public, and many others, ralised that something did happen before the Battle of Britain!!!
Make a refreshing change from only being interested in Spitfire’s!!
Fantastic, look superb:)
I thought that somewhere earlier in the previous thread it had been said that they were Potez engines:confused:
Fantastic, realy does look the part now with the paint and spinners etc. Well done to all involved on a super achivement. As you say Wyvern, they didnt just talk about it that got on and did it. 🙂
Great news, what a fantastic sight 😀 A few gremlins are not uncommon after such a complex restoration. Looks a little rich on the climb out but what a superb sight, well done to all at TFC and hope the rest of the test program goes well.:)
Shouldnt it be “The Baders Legs”!!!:diablo:
No Spit Yesterday But We Had Somthing Better Biggles Biplane As I Spotted From The Museum Yesterday.
Are yes, we were doing a photo shoot with a young lady in Edwardian/20’s dress 😀
Whatever became of Brendan O’Brian?
He hosted a TV series that was shown in the US on the old Wings network, haven’t seen him since.
Brendan is still about in recent years he has been doing his trailer top landing crazy flying act with a J3 Cub:)
Sat morning at about 11:00hrs a Spitfire did a nice Victory roll over my house south of SantaPod heading North to Sywell ?. It was all done at a safe height and looked and sounded really nice ,thank you. It was brown/green colour scheme and I am wondering if it was a Duxford machine ?
No Spit at Sywell on Saturday:(
Great pictures as always Andy, and it was a pleasure:)
G-BADW is still with Bob Mitchel and now at Sleap under rebuild. It was G-BADZ that was around for a time still in Rothmans colours with a large registration, it to is under rebuild.
I had heard a report of a possible control lock being left inplace:(
Today we flew the BE2 replica into Farnborough, first BE2 to land at Farnborough since 1918. The A/C was then parked infront of the Black Sheds and Trenchard house next to the Cody Memorial for a photo call with local and Aviation press. Have to thank all at Farnborough for coping so well with an arrival of a Edwardian Biplane on 24 hard!!!
A great day and what a privilege it was to take a BE2 back to where it all began 100 years ago:D
