Wheels are fine on snow if its hard and compact or it its only a couple of inches thick. Biggest issue is obsticles/holes hidden underneith!!
There are ski landing gears that can be hydraulicaly lowered or lifted to a position below or above the wheel. This can be done in flight thus allowing opperation from normal runways and snow. These were certainly in use in WWII.
I can, I remember how I felt when I rang a Mutual freind to see how he was doing to be told he was no longer with us:(
To put Ray and Mark on some sort of pedistal is completely understandable but also totaly wrong. They were of their time and they were fantastic at what they did. There have been many great display pilots and there are many talented ones who display today. Many as has been said are no longer with us, many lost in accidents nothing to do with display flying and many due to other factors ( Including the one none of us can beat, time).
Displays ARE different these days, thats due to changes in regulations and it does amaze me how on one hand those on this forum complain of Boring displays when A/C are flown sedately and on the other complain of airframes being put a risk when they are not! You carnt have it both ways:rolleyes:
When you go to an airshow appreciate all that perform for your pleasure, they do it because they want to and because they enjoy it, To be honest they would do it even if no one was there!
This is a loverly thread with great pics that stirs many memories but remember them all, every single one of them.
I have a very long list of those no longer with us, and its with a heavy heart that I remember some that are to close to home to bear:(
Good CGI is the CGI that you dont even notice 🙂
Tooooo Slow TT, I put that up ages ago. Great little film 😀
Eh?? He said he is working on the hobbit NOW! and is off to NZ on Monday for talks about the Dambusters!
But if you’re one of those people that just HAS to be right, then have it your way! (i know what he said, so not bothered myself)
Indeed not, first to admit when wrong but I also know what I heard. But, what ever:diablo:
I agree with Oxcart. I watched it too and Fry definately said he was going to NZ for talks with PJ. For those that can get it its now on the BBC iPlayer
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01bw5bj/The_One_Show_09_02_2012/ Scroll to 15:15.
There is also an item on the Kent Sound Mirrors on just before it too.
Martin
I too have watched it again and listened to what is said very carefully. Again he says he its has been 6 years since he first spoke to PJ re Dambusters and that on Monday he is off to NZ to work on THE HOBIT with PJ. When asked it it will still happen he clearly says he hopes so and that they are both still passionate about it.
So again, he is not going out to NZ for meetings about Dambusters but to work on the Hobit. There is a difference! But saying he is going for meetings about the Dambusters re make infers that somthing is happening with the film when it is not. Im sure when he is out there he will discuss it with PJ but PJ has said that at the moment he is concentrating on the Two Hobit films.
In one way I hope they not so much re make The Dambusters but make a new Dambusters film, as he says they can tell more of the story now.
They can even get the name of the dog right:diablo:
Not sure if it’s ever been mentioned here. But if you need some proof of Jacksons interest in Aviation and authenticity he started a plastic model company producing WW1 aircraft.
If you’ve never seen them have a look, and check the galleries
I think his rather bigger company The Vintage Aviator that makes real one’s proves it better:)
Seems some have selective hearing:rolleyes: What he actualy said was he was off to NZ to work on the Hobit with Peter Jackson and when he was asked about Dambusters re make he said he hoped it would still get made:)
So not off to NZ to have a meeting about Dambusters;)
I too never realised he was a pilot and used to own a Tiger and a Christen Eagle, just goes to show!!
I thought it to be a superb and well balanced prog set at just the right level to keep joe public interested without reducing it to utter pulp that so often happens. It was not affraid to tackle the more dificult topics re the area bombing campaign with some emotion that clearly effected the brothers. In a world where we seem to be ashamed of the past it was good to see it tackled head on and done with some level of dignity. Well done Beeb.
Leave it to me!
Be pleased to see them there:)
Yes, but you’ll keep it at blinkin’ Sywell.
:);):)
Indeed I would:diablo: :diablo:
Maybe I can persuade Grub Street to book a stall with you?
They would be welcome to book a stall at Sywell as well Andy!
I just need those six numbers, just six thats all :diablo:
Still registered to Demon Displays so I guess it didnt sell;)
