hey Chitts have you ever seen this edition of Aeroplane Monthly from February 1998?. theres a realy good little story in there and just by chance i read it the other night before this post came up. well worth getting hold of a copy as it covers the recovery of G-AEFT also. i pinched the photo`s from within

    Thats G-ADYS not G-AETF!

In the mean time G-AEXD is getting closer to having air under her wheels sometime this year.

Given that most mechanics wouldn’t get out of bed for less than £25k, and techies for £35k-$40k… It’ll be interesting to find out what TFC could actually offer. Damn sure I couldn’t afford to move to Cambridge…. shame really.

Im affraid you will find that the vintage/Warbird world will be offering less than that! As Tony has said they seem to think they are doing YOU a favour letting you work on them not the other way round. Unfortunately we tend to do it because we love it, not for the rewards in money!!

I believe the Ron Sand drawings make a fairly accurate replica. All the airworthy replica DR1 in the UK (about 4 I think) are built from these.

Yes as I said currently four flying in the UK and 3 of those are built to Sands drawings the other to Redfern drawings. All these drawings were developed from the originals and are fairly true to the originals as far as we know, with no surviving original examples its difficult to know. As has allready been said they vary in power plants and some have been fitted with original rotaries. The four in the uk have flat four lycomings in 3 of them and a Warner Scarab in the other. They are all constructed with a steel tube fuselage as per the original but the steel used is of a stronger grade than would have been used originaly. Daz you are correct that Rob lamplough used to own one of the Bitz built Blue Max DR1’s, this is now in France with the Salis collection. And yes you are quite correct the other BM DR1 is now back with Patrick and Lynn Garrison in the USA.
By the way Michael Carlson’s DR1 that was damaged at Duxford last year was built with original spec steel tube, the nose over resulted in the fuselage being twisted beyond repair! Thats why we now use stronger spec steel:D
There is also a fith DR1 being built in the UK and should fly next year.

The two mentioned by Low & Slow where the ones used in that film whose name escapes me! There were as has been said not that many DR1’s produced and after the War prety much every thing apart from the DVII’s were distroyed. I like you amquite supprised that at least one was not grabbed for war booty and brought back to UK, USA or somewhere, especialy with its links to VR.

As Bruce has said can Stu Hoy at Anglian Sailplanes not supply new suttons ? Thats where I got my last set from for a DH 60.

If not try willan harnesses, http://www.willans.com They will make up harnesses to any spec you want with webbing any colour you want, they do a twist catch similar to Z type or a lever catch similar to american hookers that may look more period. A/C is on a Permit so they are exceptible. They made up the harness’s for the BE2 and they are very good belts.

If the parts are small enough chuck them in a bucket of AVGAS, thinners, white spirit and leave em overnight, you will find it comes of easy then with a brush or a rag.

To those who were earlier arguing as to why Stephen Fry is in New Zealand, he caused a controversy here yesterday about NZ’s broadband service. When it hit the news all the sources were saying he is here working on the filming of The Hobbit. Billy Connolly has been here recently for the same film project as have many others.

Iain, I loved every minute of those 13 hours and wished there were more when it ended.

Funny that! seeing as thats what he said he was going to NZ for:diablo:

    Thanks for sharing!

On the german boneyard – there is a shortish A/C in the middle of the shot, seemingly with overpainted roundels.

    What is it?

Just finished watching series, there was indeed scope for more, great pity it wasn’t followed up.

Still, great series, glad to see it re-released 😎

Blimey that was quick work, I have only watched the first disc:eek:
Yes it was a great series a great shame that it ended so soon, I know uncle David had allready started a Model for an Avro York and I think a Conni was on the way as well:)
