I havent seen Barry on there.
Yes be good to meet you, i to take great interest in local Aviation History, especially if its conected to the family:D
I belive it was a Messenger.
There is no date on that clipping, i have another one with a date of the 4th of September 1964. The display was on the 29th of August 1964.
Er, i wasnt. I think my post crossed with yours. Chris also mentioned it was marked on the aeronautical map. He was going to try and fish a map out with it marked. I have never heard mention of No6 EFTS using it.
Speaking to Chris Parker today he says that there was a strip at Billing but not a full blown Airfield!! He also was nor aware of the Chrisair Dragon ever opperating from there. I certainly remember the Dragon at Sywell, when it was sold Dad moved into its old hangar. There was some workshops and offices in the back and painted markings on the floor to make sure the Dragon went in in the right place!!!:D
Chrisair used this field for joyriding in the summer around late fifties and early sixties using DH Dragon G-ADDI and Austers. Welcome any details/photographs ?
Billing Airfield???? never known of an airfield at Billing but i will see what i can find out.
G-AROZ was one, there was also G-ATKC which sadly also crashed following an inflight structural failure and G-AWEF which is still about. G-ASHS is still alive and well and currently in my hangar at Sywell recieving some TLC π
Unfortunate and potentially dangerous but i doubt it was illegal, unless the NOTAM mentions anything different. Just because it is an organized event doesnβt automatically seal off the airspace above it.
Would be interesting to see if the light aircraft filed an Airprox against the Spitfire
That depends if the event had NOTAM’d Airspace, if it was an organised event with a CAA permision then it would have!!
Correct, G-ASHS in pre yellow and red sunburst scheme and Renault engine;)
Thats Dad flying Stampe G-ASHS:)
It was Lewis “Benjy” Benjamin flying the SOW Tiger with his wife Lolita on the wing.
Here is a paper cutting from the time.
Watched the second, great stuff!!! Nice shot of Dad getting airborne in a Slingsby!
The stuff in the workshop is priceless, love the shot of the paintspraying whilst wearing a suit!!!!!!:D
WOW, has anybody got details of who has these films???? PLEASE!
Have not watched the fist yet as it keeps locking!!!!!!
The second in particular features my father Charles Boddington flying the Super Tiger(Archbishop) Aero’s and the Stampe, also the current owner of ASHS will be interested.
For info G-ALNR wasnt Derreks Tiger, it belonged to the Tiger Flying Group at Poddington of which Derrek, my father and Harvey Britain were members, you can see Harvey wing walking the Tiger in at the RAF Display just before my father gets out! This maybe Cottesmore, i have a note from the station comander thanking Dad for the display!!
Derrek has had a few Tigers but his own long owned one is G-ANNK which he still has.
I would love to get a copy of these, as kids we spent alot of time at Poddington durring these days.
Unfortunately you have to realise that you are dealing with production budgets and also what is realisticaly available. Would you let some one loose with your real SE5?? And there are no full size Replica SE5’s available in the UK, well not yet anyway!!
This was by no means perfect and yes there were some bloopers in there for sure. And im sure more will pick holes in it.
Its designed for the mass market and hopefull, even if its just one, if its made some people think about what those men did in that War then it was worth while.
Anyway i had fun chasing a 7/8th SE5 in a FULL SIZE DR1 π
Near as dammit, based on the design as I remember. Anyhow about as near to a real SE5 as a Tiger moth is to a Spitfire.
Lycoming engined 7/8 scale aeroplanes are not at all significant historically.
And Richthofen was dead before the reached him. He did NOT utter ‘Kaput’
So much promised ruined by bad editing and crap information
Continental 0200 powered actually, and its a Replica Plans 7/8 replica thats not based on the Curry Wot at all!! What were you saying about crap information:rolleyes:
