As a fan of the Kent Spitfire I am extremely disappointed that it will not be appearing and Kent’s Biggin Hill Air Show this weekend.
Do owners have a say in who fly their aircraft ?
.
What an arogant thing to say:eek: Yes owners do have a say who fly their aircraft!!!!!
Not airshow organisers, not airshow goers and certainly not you:mad:
Just because the Aircraft is based at Biggin Hill it dosent automaticaly have to attend the Airhow there??? There are many factors as to why a particular Aircaft does or dosent appear at any given show.
And tomorrow a Sopwith Camel flies in!
And not just any Sopwith Camel, the oldest!!!!!:confused:
Cica 1973:rolleyes:
This one
I had heard he had brought our old Super Decath, its a great machine, used to be the hack at Rendcomb after it was unsuitable for the trailer top landing!

I don’t know if the CAA’s display DA requirements are available online. However the data therin is a good example of incident-driven safe-practice.
HTH.[/QUOTE]
Its all in CAP 403 which is available as a PDF from the CAA Safety Regulations web site.
Lots of talk of B25 camera ships! ie more than one. I thought there was only one B25 camera ship used in BOB:confused: The ones that were left in the UK were those used in Hanover Street wer’nt they??
Who says its for a Tiger Moth?? There are more A/C out there that use a Gipsy Major, and any way the Moth Service Register doesnt always have all the answers!
From memory alot of it was not much good, we spent hrs going through side fames to get a pair that could be used!! I also belive the CAA had an issue with the wings, somthing to do with moisture content of wing spars:eek:
Light Aero Spare’s have both 12 and 14mm screened plugs, i did have some 12mm KLG plugs untill recently but sold the lot. Unless you really want a screened ignition then a modern equivilent NGK plug will serve you better and cheeper.
I like all photos, but most the Bücker.
I think you mean the CASA;)
It is usually air show organizers that demand “insurance company backed public liability” at least here in Australia, while it makes good sense it is not a legal requirement.
My original comments about insurance were in reference to hull insurance, that is where the real costs lie, ie 3-4% of hull value.
cheers
As i stated, here in the UK ” IT IS ” a requirement to have 3rd Party liability insurance, not just for Airshows. Here you must have liability insurance before the Aircraft flies in UK airspace. What happens in Australia is a different matter.
I know many people here in the UK that except the risk on the hull and will dig deep into there pockets should the worst happen.
Its a legal requirement in the UK to have minimum 3rd party insurance. You can except the risk on the hull value if you so wish.
I think many are missing the point here, knowbody wants to ground her, but she is on an experimental american permit and therefore canot continue to fly in the UK. If she went back to the USA she can still fly, she however now belongs to Brooklands and unless she can go onto a UK Permit or CofA she canot fly. I would imagine that the biggest stumbling block for getting her past the UK authorities are the engines?? although these have been proven reasonably well one would think:rolleyes: I for one would like to see her continue to fly, but i guess the costs involved may be prohibertive:(
Thanks for that, i was going to say it looks about 3/4 size. Looks to be one of the Airdrome Aeroplane kits from Robert Baslee poered by a VW, is it??
I dont belive that anyone at Brooklands wants to ground the Vimy, i suspect the problem is that it was built on and opperates on the American Experimental system. US Experimental A/C are not permited to fly in the UK, this is why the Vimy has been opperating on Exemptions. This canot go on indefinately, i belive the hope was to get the A/C on to a UK CofA or Permit. I Suspect that the build quality of the initial build is in question and i would think the engines may be another problem. For it to be excepted onto the UK register the work required would prove very costly which is maybe the crux of the problem.
