Not ‘Pilot in Command’ of course, but as the commentary states, the Captain did allow Sir Michael to (briefly I imagine) take the controls and fly the aeroplane from the right hand seat.
He seemed very moved at the flight’s conclusion, no wonder really.
Nope, it is Tony Iverson who is flying in and is allowed to take control of the Aircraft;)
Very moving all the same.
Congratulations. She looks beautiful!
Am I alone in thinking the ‘Gipsy Swift’ looks even better than the Pobjoy version?
I want one even more now I’ve seen that pic of it flying!! 😀
I have the drawings:D
90 years of the end of the First World War
Isnt that this year:confused: 1918-2008;)
40th anniversary of the 1st flight of BE2 replica G-AWYI, “Biggles Biplane”
hopefully she will fly again next year.
“Wings”:D
Filmed at Duxford, as was the French airfield.
Many of the Take off shots filmed at Sywell;)
I think it was just a matter of £sd – the collection was owned by Sir Hugh Roberts, but it became a severe overhead and most of it had to be sold off.
The two original pictures were taken in 1974 of the Hurricane that was indeed lost in a fire in CWH, and the Lancaster that flew over from Canada, G-BCOH, only to be severely damaged in a hangar collapse, although I believe the cockpit has survived. I have a complete photographic archive of the whole collection as it was in 1974/75 on colour slide – I’ll post a link to Flickr when I (eventually) upload it!! Thanks for your reply! J
Sold to Charles Church, thats when the hangar collapesed on it, at Woodford i belive?? Now owned by kermit Weeks and in store at FofF.
Just found it on the book shelf:)
Well done, aircraft first flew 26/4/08.
I know, i flew it;)
If it’s so offensive why are you digging for it and then alerting others with a thread devoted to it?
My thoughts exactly:mad:
Great to finally meet you as well Tony, a wonderfull day and loverly to finally return to Baldonnel and meet with so many people who remembered Dad.
Returning to Ireland was somthing i had meant to do for many years, the two days spent visiting Baldonnel and Weston (the site of Dads accident) the day before was a wonderfull and very emotional experience. Listening to many stories of flying with dad and all the great times they had, nice to know he is still remembered and still held in high regard. Hopefully it wont be a one off and will happen again:)
http://www.replicraft.us.fm are a great source of accurate drawings for many WW1 A/C. Well worth a look;)
Correct the IO 320 is a flat four, the cylinders you see protruding are false cylinders that were made and bolted on under the lycoming.:D
I think i am in Love ,LOL, that Dr1 is bloody fabulous,
I only wish i could do such a thing, as many others of you,
I gotta keep trying to win those Lotto tickets LOL,:DI also wondered , what engine did he use, and the Spandau Guns look marvelous, I wouldnt mind one of them on my wall, I know real ones are
exremely rare, I imagine in the states there is a Pattern for making very good
Mock up MG08 Spandau guns,
Nearly found some on E-bay, But Ebay pulled the plug before i could bid:(with all these copies, I wonder what next, A Gotha Bomber perhaps, ???:D
The engine is a IO 320 lycoming, the guns were made by Paul and they ARE capable of being fired with the use of propane:diablo: Not sure what the CAA would have to say about that though:rolleyes:
Try http://www.replicraft.us.fm/ for first class and extreemly accurate plans for building from.:D
Credit should go to Tony Van Geffen and Paul Ford for the photos.
An incredible achievement by Paul and Sarah and I for one hope they build more WW1 aircraft soon!!
Best regards
Jason
I think the pilot had somthing to do with it as well you know:diablo:
