Best wishes for the crew recovery, when did this accident occur?
About 4 weeks ago, good to see thet are up on the latest events:p
Unfortunately we were advised by AA late in the week before that they were unable to make the time slot for the Six at Sywell, This was due to the fact that they had been informed by the management at Coventry that the Airport would be closed between 3 and 4 pm. This was within time that she needed to get Airborn for Sywell, at that stage we had Early slots that needed to go to Dunsfold so couldnt be movd and the end of the display was very much governed by timings for both the Vulcan and the Reds. Although it was looked at very closely we unfortunately could not move the slot for the Six, it was looked at repositioning the A/C to Wellsborne before the Closure at Coventry. Late on saturday i recieved a call to say that the powers at be at AA decided that repositioning was to costly and all they could do was cancel:(
This left us a big hole in the show to fill and with the loss of the Vulcan as well we did they best we could in the circumstance.
Although display dirrectors have to be flexible to cope with weather and other problems it also has to be done with saftey as the most important issue, to rejig the display again late on the saturday evening to accomadate the Six was not an option.
As it happened i belive Coventry did not close after all:(

Be carefull what you say sir, i sat at Sywell only a few miles away hoping it would clear so i could get there with the Triplane. Most of the day i could not see the other side of the Airfield, it id not really clear untill 6pm and even then it was less than ideal:( If we could have been there then we would, but it is never ever acceptable to risk life or valuable A/C in such conditions. I have grovelled to many Airshows in the past but unfortunately Sundays weather at Sywell and other parts of the country was not good enough to even contemplate taking off:(
Great shots of the Blades. The Fokker Triplane is my favourite though.
Which Triplane??:D
They are The Blades mate – based at Sywell.
TT

There was a Gotha Replica being built in the USA a few years back, not sure how far its got! Two Rumpler replica’s were built for “Biggles Sweeps The Skies” along with our BE2, they are still flying in the USA.
Wouldn’t say no to my very own Biff…..
Who knows, with the 100th anniversary of WW1 coming in the next few years, maybe interest will be revived and we’ll see more WW1 aircraft about. I’ve got a full RFC/RAF groundcrew uniform if anyone wants some help on the ground 😉
Are you coming to Sywell Airshow??
If you are you should hve it on, 😉
I will claim the brewery’s worth of ale… Just hope the weather is better than any previous time I have attempted to go somewhere this year.
Quit them negative wave’s:diablo:
For Foreign civil pilots a DA has to be issued. Da must be renewed every year by a DAE, 13 months to be exact! If any changes/aditions to DA are wanted then these to have to be demonstrated to a DAE and an application sent to the CAA for approval, and the required fee paid of course;)
