I have it on very good authority (TT) that the Chippie is Silver
is it me or does TT need spectacles
even with my nose a mere 2 foot away it was still Blue……………..
Yep its blue 😀 its TT that needs the eye test 😉 it should be silver but the story goes that when it went in for its respray the owner took a pic and said “i want it like this one”. That was a pic of a portugeese chippy parked on a wet appron with a blue sky, the reflextion off the silver made it look blue 😮 So thats the colour it was painted, and that came from the guy at the paint shop :p
The Moths etc looked great at Sywell and i understand that they had a great evening in Hangar One.
A few more turned up later DB, but not the 47 booked in. i was at Kemble yesterday, dodged the Thunderstorms on the way down and sat at Rendcomb for a while as one passed by!!! certainly was a bit thin on the ground, hopefully they had a better day today.
Does anybody know what happened to the “Flambards” Replica’s?? i know that the Bristol Mercury ended up at Elvington, what of the rest?? Have a vested interest, helped make them 😀
Originaly the tanks were open and there was a metal edging strip between the tank and the centre section, so if you are going to seal the tank in then it aint gona be original!!!!! and it aint gona look to good either. If i were you i would cover the tank.
think you will find that with out the fuel tank covered you will not be compliant with the said AD and you will have to remove the tank each year for the inspection. The tank is only covered with fabric so not what you would call a lot of wait saving there!!!!! Original is not always better, these AD’s are brought out for a reason and help prevent accidents that have happened in the past.
For an aircraft ‘on long term rebuild’ it seems to be coming along quite nicely with the fuselage and wings repainted. Here is another view of it at Ronaldsway, now with the engines offered up for attachment. Also I found a shot of it as it looked stored at Redhill in 1960, being silver with a ‘coloured’ cheatline.
But its been at this stage for quite a few years, so i think long term sums it up nicely
[QUOTE=GASML]Thanks for all the suggestions. Looks like I’m going to have a lot of aeroplanes to look at over the next few months!
I bet you wernt to pleased with the Kitfox suggestion 😮
Great shots, nice one of the three Harvards. Is it me or has MH’s got a droopy left leg??
Unemployed 🙁
How much is M.B-B taking if it’s for charity? Nowt I hope!
Once the cost are covered the rest goes to charity, the last show in 2004 lost in the region of £30K. alot due to the fact that many people did there best to get in for nothing!!!!! The Air Ambulance still revieved a cheque for £5K from Sywell Aerodrome, even though the show LOST money. If you dont know the facts then coments like that are best kept to yourself, alot of people including myself devote a lot of our own time, and money, to make this event happen.
Yeah right, dad’s favourite more like! 😀
Any FOSA discount, TT?
I take it you are joking!!!! its only £12 now, a tenner if you buy your ticket early. And its for charity for F**KS sake 😡
There is a RAL code as well that is basicaly the correct shade, wil dig it out.
Blimey, two displays in one day at different places 😮 who would have thought that :p
I shall be there with the baby beaver
Is that Legal!!!! 😀
The Lowestoft Air Show takes place Thursday29th/Friday 30th July. Unfortunately I won’t be going to either but for those that are within easy travelling distance and haven’t been before, it is a great day out.
Details are here:-
http://www.eastcoastfestivals.co.uk/air_festival/airfest2.htm
Be warned of the traffic jams though as 400000 are expected to attend the two day festival. The weather looks promising too.
27th and 28th of JULY to be correct, if you go on the 29th you will have missed it!!!! 😀
So you want a new build cheeper to look after airframe and a more modern engine with lower costs than a Gipsy Major, so you dont actualy want a Chipmunk you want a cheep alternative
No such thing my friend, if you built a Vans RV 8, closest thing to a modern Chipmunk, with a new airframe and a new Lycoming engine on the PFA its still gona cost you £40K plus. Melve is probaly being conservative at £100K, and any way you aint gona get permision from DH Canada to use the drawings, liability you know. 😉
