That doesnt look like a Sopwith Rep to me – more like a Salmson…. ?
TT
Agreed TT, looks like one of those “Gunbus” Salmson replica’s!!
SOHC750, love the shot you got of me doing the ribbon pick up, any chance of geting a copy? or any others you may have got 🙂
Are they trying to impersonate Old Warden with the flour bombing and barnstorming? 🙂 😀
Ollie, as GASML has allready said. Old Wardens Barnstorming slot is a dirrect copy of “The barnstormers Flying Circus” act that was done for 30 years from the late 60’s. We did it several times at OW but they then said that it didnt fit in with the feel of OW only to do their own version a few years later. At the end of the day nothing is new, the Barnstormers was set up by my father and like minded pilots in the late 60’sto try and recreate somthing of the “Alan Cobham” feel of airshow. In the 70’s and 80’s they traveled the length and bredth of the UK and Europe, turning up at an airfield and putting on a whole show from start to finish
Actually, its an Me-108 😉
Er! Wrong!!!!!!
That follows Rob – but why the ring?
toilet 😉
But we still had to make do with the “Biggles” film from 1985….
Wash your mouth out with soap and water!!
And while I’m mining the archives on a rainy day, here’s one for you that might not be seen again, taken by Tom Polapink over Old Rhinebeck in happier days (ORA is at death’s door now I’m afraid, most of the pilots and mechanics gone, and only two of their own aircraft flying any more on weekends, http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13739 )
The Avro 504 replica was built over there by Vivian Bellamy and crew, in something like 8 weeks, for a Biggles movie that was never made. Cole Palen bought it and had it shipped to Rhinebeck, where it flew in the shows for many years, it’s now under repair off site after a forced landing. The Avian will be familiar to most of you, it was re-painted for a re-enactment of a flight by Amelia Earhart from NY to LA and back. Photo taken September 2, 2001.
Ita such a shame that the “Biggles” film was never made, it had a great list of replica’s made for it. The 504, a sopwith camel, the two Rumplers and of course our very own BE2.
Chipmunk doing this! 😀 got a new way of holding the ribbon now though, tried it last night, works a treat.
also this weekend coming, 15th/16th, there is another flyin due to the last one sufering from bad weather!! free landing fee’s and a free breakfast if you uplift 20lts of fuel.
I might come :p
Health and Safety would have a field day, no gloves or eye protection!! and as for the risk of sun burn 😮
The great war combat team have 2 fly baby come junkers, a neiuport 17, sopwith Triplane and several 7/8th scale SE5’s that regularly take part in thwere displays. It can be a combination of any of the above talking part.
The 4 DR1 replica’s are the breighon base example, rob lamploughs that is an ex “Blue Max” example. The other two are John Days recently flown new build powered by a 145 Warner ( sorry Melv!) and Hairyplanes as yet i belive unflown new build powered by a Lycoming 0320!!
Well GINFO has it listed as just ben registered so i guess it is about to come across the pond!
Re Freeloaders. Duxford primary school were selling park-and-view facilities for £5 per car, but most people were piling into the field beside the M11, under the approach, where the Bf 109 ended up inverted a few years ago.
And if similar happened again then we have the cry” Ban these dangerous Air displays, how could this be alowed to happen!!!!”
This is not just a case of money, it is saftey as well. If the crowd is within the correct area the rules are there to make sure that if the worst happens then members of the puplic are safe, and its not just for the public, if a pilot has a problem he is going to want to head away from the crowd and if is does so and then is faced with a field full od people it leaves him knowhere to go!!!!
now thats an expensive barby!! 😮
