Time just flies by these days
Went through Sywell this morning as well, and the Lanc, twice!!!
If some folks stand ‘outside the fence’, so what? Means little in the overall scheme of things and doesn’t detract in any way from the quality of non-freeloader images does it?.
😉
As far as i am concerned i dont give a damm as to where people stand to take there picture’s ( as long as it does not compramise saftey!!) as long as they have brought a ticket to the event in question. to say that it is perfectly ok for people to just turn up, stand outside, and take as many pics as they please ( some of which will then be offered for sale on their or others websites) realy p****S me off. Come to the event, buy a ticket, and then offer contructive coments as to how the event organiser can improve your experience. But remember an Airshow is not put on just so you can come and take picture’s, it is there to entertain the general public as well so it will always be a compramise. You can please some of the people some of the time, but not all the people all of the time!!
My main point is that perhaps it’s up to the show organisers to make sure that there is enough of interest to justify the “typical” cost of the day for the party size (entry fees plus programme and snacks etc) and thus attract people inside :diablo: The public generally vote with their feet, so if bums are on seats then you’ve got it right, if the bums are in the fields outside then perhaps you need to review your total offering (ticket pricing, static display, “family attractions” – as most punters are probably not enthusiasts as already mentioned in another post above, traders stalls, ease of entry/exit to show site and to parking etc etc.
Paul F (Firmly Sitting ON the fence on this topic 😮 )
As a show organiser who spends an awfull lot of my own time to organise an event, Unpaid i might add!!!! and the event in question is to raise money for local charities i find that a discusion on how to view displays for free beggars belife 😡 On one hand we have people moaning about the cost of the entry price and on the other complaining about how many Airshows are being lost. Its simple guys, these things cost money and with ever increasing fuel costs and cost to the governing authorities it will only get worse, either use em or you will loose them for good.
The last Sywell Airshow in 2004 was met with great reviews and said to be one of the best of the year, it was a financial disaster!!! thas why there has not been another one untill this year and if this dosent work there will be no more 🙁 last ime our ticket price was £10 per person, for that you got a wide and varried 3 hour display ranging from a Catalina to a jet powered microlight all for a tener! and still people watched from the fields, the roads, and worse than that a big percentage of the crowd on the field had found a way to get in for free!!!!! 😡 and it was for *******ing charity, namely the Air Ambulance that one day some of them might be greatfull for
I know some of the bigger Airshows seem to have a hihd entry price but belive me if you knew what the costs where you may have a different view.
Airshows dont come cheep and as i said before, use em or loose them!! 🙁
Sad news, its times like this that we are reminded what a crule world this can be. Never met you Sir but always read your column with interest, may you rest in peace. Sincere Condolences to your family and friends.

[QUOTE=T6flyer]A friend of mine has just finished rebuilding an Auster AOP.6 back to its stock 1946 condition and has spent £25,000 on the rebuild. To buy it, it would be about £20,000 at most.
im afraid that is the case with many vintage aeroplanes, they oftencost more to rebuild than they are worth 🙁
Everything depends on condition and how keen the seller is to get his money!
or indeed how keen the buyer is to get his prize! often comes down to what someone is prepared to pay for the A/C in question.
And coming out with bah, or did you mean baaah!!!! 😮
