Got a few bits that will probably be surplus. Couple of under fuselage skid clamps and original panel immediately spring to mind. I will PM you a list if you want. Quite a few electrical and fuel valve type bits also.

There seems to be a real shortage of control parts hence me getting the cyclic stick made. Niel Airey got me collective for the left seat but I desparately need one for the right hand seat with the throttle and switches etc. Nothing in place for the pedals either so I’m really struggling there.

I was informed folk were wondering where Jetranger G-OJEF went so thought I had better log in and update. I bought the Jetranger off ebay in and as a regular volunteer there intended it as a project for Millom. When things went belly up I brought it home for safe keeping.

It is currently with me in Whitehaven where I am working on it as a project that will go to shows raising money and awareness for and the local air ambulances. So far I have stripped all the wiring and panel out and made one control stick. Jon Fellows of Spitsim controls fame is kindly helping me out with the dual control /mechanical movement to PC conversion.

Not much progress for 18 months of ownership I know but the spitfire cockpit production line gets in they way!

Could post a photo as I suppose it’s still relevant to this thread.

    swift

I have a couple of Mike Lithgow books that I would be nice to go with the swift display. I did put them in the cockpit but was worried before the sale that they might get damaged of go missing. I will get them down to brooklands if somebody could give me a contact there.

    Spit and 109 cockpits

Nick, the show trailer for the sims is now in use. It is easier for me to run it within the trailer then I don’t need to unload the cockpits/put up a 10ftx 10ft marquee. It is 20ft long by 7ft wide if you have the room.

    Lake District Spit wreckage ID

    Thanks Graham,

Sounds like the Spit from Ill Crag on Scafell. I think it was a bubble canopy one. I know Merlin Pete has been up there.

Gotta go and pick up Spit and 109 from Carnforth, will check back this evening.

    Wasdale Mountain Rescue team find

A member of the above team gave me this piece of wreckage many miles from any known crash sites yesterday. I thought it looked military as there is an Anson above Cam Spout Crag on the S. side of Scafell and a Spitfire on Ill Crag nearby.

The only others nearby were civvy (a Cherokee on Esk Hause and an Arrow on Bowfell) but this was found way, way South west of either of these sites.

As you can see, there is green paint on one of the skins. It has probably been blown or carried there.

    Wessex/Whirlwind airframes at Weston museum.

Here are some pics of some airframes I spotted at a flightsim show at Westom Supermare Helicopter Muesum. I never got a chance to speak to the owners as to availability but it looks like some may have been languishing there for a while.

I have more a comprehensive list in picture form so here are the Wessexes and one of the many Whirlwinds out the back.

    IMAG0038

    IMAG0037

    IMAG0030

For the record, that’s 4 different Wessexes.

Also has anybody heard of a company called “Their finest Hour Ltd.” . Are they a charity, are all the proceeds going to RAFBF? The website was a little unclear http://www.theirfinesthour.co.uk/

    Spitfire camo brown query.

The second Spitfire simulator back from it’s first show of the year. Not happy with the brown on the camo tho. tried Johnstone’s mixed BS381c for dark earth but it was way too dark then I matched a chip that a very kind engineer at ARC Duxford gave me that came closest to Johnstone’s Nutmeg. Any ideas anybody.

    BILD3696

The colour of the brown in this MK5 A from Duxford is the one I think I need. I am assuming this is Dark Earth that would have been used up until ’41.

    me in spit

Any suggested suppliers for the right colour? Would the brown on the second pic be Dark Earth. My chip came from the Blenheim nose section removed from the one being restored at Duxford.

    Jet ranger simulator

I wish I didn’t have a “real job” to go to. I could get so much more done at Millom! Here is our latest exhibit that I picked up today from Sunderland. It went under several reg no.s until it crashed as G-OJEF in 2005. As you can see the rotor went through the left side rear so we will be breaking it from the rear seat back.

So far the plan for monitors is similar to the Traumahawk sim setup.
