Thanks James!
Yes, the head-on shot was taken from the Lincoln rear turret. Lovely photo it is! I wonder if any colour photos of the CA-15 exist…
My wife will probably kill me if I buy another book, but I’ll look it up 😀
My main references for the CA-15 now are some drawings, photos and data from the internet and Wings of Fame #4.
If the Flightpath magazine is the same as the one that contains my Lee Bottom fly-in report, I should hopefully be getting a copy of it already 🙂
That’s awesome, I never saw that before either! You got me very tempted to convert my CA-15 model into the R-2800 design now 😀 I got an R-2800 modelled already (for my Corsair): http://home.wanadoo.nl/r.j.o/skyraider/gallery/corsair_2wip.jpg
Is it specified which sub-model was to be used for the CA-15? There are a good few variations between R-2800 models.
PS. It’s interesting to see they designed the V-shaped tailplane from the outset. Usually it’s only introduced if stability problems are encountered during flight or wind tunnel testing (Beaufighter, A-20).
Hi James, I don’t have that book unfortunately. I’d love to hear what you can find out about this flight.
To me the Kangaroo looks like a beefed-up P-51, not necessarily ugly. I really like some of its features, like the recessed exhausts, V-shaped tail, tuna-shaped fuselage and I kinda like the “tiny” canopy too. It’s a beast of a plane surely, and indeed one of the last original prop fighters (Yugoslavia made a Yak-lookalike in the late forties and this must’ve been a later design than the CA-15).
Funny enough, for several years now I have had 3D models of both P-51D and CA-15 and I never loaded them up side-by-side for comparison. I just did. Indeed in the sideview the CA-15 is a good bit larger, but the wingspan is very comparable. Have a look:

My only worry is that most people who posted here are artists, rather than collectors/enthusiasts 😉
Anyway, Merry Christmas! 😀
I wish it wasn’t necessary, but it does sting when you see months of hard work being abused.
In a more recent case a neo-nazi(!) organisation used my Luftwaffe ’46 visualisations for a publication of theirs. Apparently they even gave me credit, although I wish they hadn’t as I don’t want to have anything to do with these folks! 😡
Very nice way of presenting a profile, Paul! The Vulcan painting is great too, but be careful with posting such high-res pictures online without marking them with a copyright logo. Before you know it, it ends up in a book or magazine without any credits, let alone payments. I’ve had that happen to my stuff over a dozen times… 🙁
Thanks for the tip.
If the image quality is crisp and grain free (at 100 ISO), then I can live with 7 MP. Most compacts needs to have their output scaled down a little to make decent images.
I do like the video performance of this camera.
Yeah I was looking at that… great specs. One problem though: my wife will probably not let me get one as it’s too thick already and too bloody ugly! :D:D:D
Of course I could just accidentally press the buy button… :diablo:
It doesn’t have wide angle though (35mm eq.) but the impressive zoom range more than compensates for that inconvenience.
Great shots, but they would be better with a lower shutterspeed (1/100th of a second or similar). I guess when you only have a fraction of a second to aim and shoot, you can’t be too picky though! 😀
The other day I bought a B-25 parts manual, so I know what parts I’m after. I’ll try to contact the NASM and see if I can order the exact drawings from them if they have them (which is quite likely).
Thanks very much guys!
TT, please check you a PMs 🙂
A marvellous video overall with a nice low pass by a Canberra: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkWPHza8OX0
Cheers mate! 😀
still think he should do a TSR2 though, with all those lovely Extradecal what if schemes the worlds his oyster and I reckon he’d shift a load too…. 🙂
It’s on the way… 😀
ETA summer 2008…
Awesome style Mark!
