Thanks Gareth! Very interesting information 🙂
If I win the lottery one of these days I might just switch to Nikon 😀
Cheers Daz!
Good timing on those Red Arrows! Nice shot!
Tip: Desaturate and darken the Magenta colour channel on the Chinook pic to get rid of the nasty purple edges.
Lovely colourscheme! 😀 Seriously though, I kinda like it 🙂
Nice wingover too.
Only an oversized mirror would give you the extra area you want.
Exactly. Theoretically, this could be possible in the 300D (using the 300N mirror, for example).
I don’t think any SLR offers this.
Quite likely… but it would be a nice feature 😉
Machine gun’s no good if you ain’t looking 😉
Very true 🙂 but to illustrate what I mean: you got a nice shot of the Tornado disappearing almost completely behind its vapour. This vapour cloud was “flickering” and only obscured the aircraft for a fraction of a second several times. Missed all those flicker clouds as after only three shots my camera started saving the images to the (80 speed!) CF card and I couldn’t make anymore pictures until it was too late 🙁
There were several of such cases where I just knew you would have the shot (and your Duxford thread here just confirms that :)). The inverted Tornado with cloud is another one (I lowered my camera cause it stared saving and by the time it was done the Tornado would be too far away anyway).
Speaking of looking, I wish the viewfinder would show some extra area around the image I am shooting. Since the EOS 300D enlarges 1.6 times, there is no reason why this couldn’t have been done. It would allow some better planning of the shot, now and then (as you can more easily see other planes coming into the frame).
O yes, moon on a stick would be nice too 😉
Thanks Tom, glad you like ’em! 🙂
Did anyone get pics of the Seahawk startup? Should be quite spectacular with the cartridge and all?
Dutch Spit looks fab! Where you found that stray ray of sunlight then? 😉
Is that the Old Warden Spit barbecue there?
Last but not least, more pics (including really bad ones! :p) can be found here:

O yes, there were Spitfires too!
Notice the odd motion effect on the prop of the second machine!

33,200 ft according to http://www.mucheswarbirds.com/F3Fart.html
Quite impressive…
PS. Funny link that… could have been about the Tornado ADF 😉
Nothing “new” at Duxford, though it wasn’t a bad show at all. Highlights (for me) were the Seahawk, IAC Spit and the Harvard duo. Having five Hurris and twelve Spits was good too. Great flying overall, especially the Hurricanes did some neat close formation stuff. The desert coloured Hurri did some really nice low passes with the wing’s top towards the crowd. Good for photographs! Seeing the Hawk 75 in action again was nice too, but it wasn’t nicely flown for us photographing lot, showing the undersides in each and every pass 🙁
Weather was rubbish though and being a photographer it partly ruined the enjoyment of the show for me. I hope for you that tomorrow is better.

*Yaaaawn…* 😀 I can’t remember getting up that early for an airshow, but I sure have in the past. Getting too old for that now, hehehe
I’ll be on my way to Duxford at 8 am tomorrow morning (100mile drive) and think that’s pretty brave! :p
