    Hide & seek

Great photo. Which one is it hiding in the background?

‘HB is coming on OK. Slow process of stripping town to see exactly what we’ve got. Generally it’s in good shape, just suffering nearly 30 years of neglect and “hangar” rash.

Let me know when you want to come up. The aeroplane will actually be moving nearer to you shortly – in fact half of it already has.

    Clocks

Just cleared out the PM boxes, so messages should be working again now.

Ben, will talk to Ade during the week. With luck my rear fuse should have arrived back today. Will be good to see the old bird starting to look like an aeroplane again for the first time in god knows how long!

    My two money-pits

Currently have T-6D G-CCOY under rebuild with the Beech Restorations guys at Bruntingthorpe, and T-33 G-WGHB in the early stages of tear-down here in Norfolk.

May God give me strength, please!

    Sadly scrapped

This was indeed scrapped, sometime in the late 70s/early 80s. Great shams as it was substantially complete when “stored” at Snake Valley.

I guess some parts could still exist. I guess you could say it’s one crime was not being a Spitfire!

    Restoration

The aeroplane wasn’t as bad as it looks.

Simply looks awful as the fabric has been stripped and they’re down to the wood. While the aeroplane needed restoration, she had been in Shuttleworth’s hands for many year and was always very well cared for.

Have to echo the sentiments about her no longer flying. Be it in the UK or New Zealand, she should still have the chance to take to the air.

    Bedsheet Bomber

I believe this was the B-25 which appeared briefly in the film 633 Squadron in a semi natural-metal finish. From there to Biggin Hill (where the spar was cut – great bit of forward planning), and thence on to Southend, Duxford and finally North Weald.

As for ownership, I understand the above name is correct. Had heard a price tag of around £25K attached to this aeroplane, but this is not direct from the owner so take with a word of caution.

Would be nice to see her finally come in from the cold – a B-25 deserves a better future than simply roting away. Life is, however, not always that simple.

The aeroplane at Sandtoft, “Laiden Maiden” was in a lot better state when I last saw her four or so years ago. Bad exfoliation to one of the port centre section spar booms, but as B-25s go, a restorable airframe. I believe the centre section has been lifted without spreader-bars being fitted, so unknown and potentially fatal damage may have ben caused.

    Early Spitfires

As a slight aside, we have a couple of the very early undercarriage selector/pump combinations, the bent handle select up or down then pump like fury type as used on Mk.1 Spits. Both are available if anyone is doing an early spit project. We also have the later and more conventional chassis selectors.

    Hi Alexis,

Just to let you know that the majority (the tip tanks are coming later) of ‘HB arrived at it’s new home today.

Come on up when you can.

    Fantastic

Thanks Cestrian. Wonderful photo, shows her sleak lines beautifully. Do you mind if I take a copy for my files?

If any more are available, please keep them coming!

    Thanks,

Harrier Cockpit of interest, per chance?

Was interested to see the post. We have a surplus Harrier GR.3 cockpit availabe for sale or trade. Internally stripped (but we can help with some bits), the cockpit is in great shape with windscreen and canopy. Drop me a note if you’re interested.

    BW,

    Phil
