Air Ministry, a mention in dispatches again I think… π
Thank you again!
I feel especially bad nowβ¦ π
Sounding off in the GD Forum like the closet Victor I am at not being able to register at the ICC, little knowing the reason was the forthcoming closure of the siteβ¦
Iβm really sorry to hear that it is to close Mark, although I can quite understand your reasons to let the ICC go. Iβm sure Iβm not alone here in saying it will be sorely missed.
Wishing you all the very best in the future.
Best Regards
Stuart

Flyable to boot, with usable ordinance… π
Thank you everyone for your help.
Trust the bloody Whirlwind to have a compass thats hardly ever been photographed… π
Still, on to Mk IV Fuel Contents Gauges…
Calling JDK….
Have you tried his excellent Lysander book?
Thanks JB
No, but I hear its good… π
Here are some pics of the Lizzie under restoration with ARCO at Duxford which I took in 2007.
Hope they help.
D’oh! Sorry SE5AFAN I missed your post, again if you have a higher res it would be nice, but otherwise that middle one is what we’re looking for!
Cheers
Mr BlueSky
Don’t suppose you have a higher res photo of these Robbo?
Whether they are good, bad or just the plain ugly truth your answers are always a joy to read Niall!
Iβm satisfied that if there were any reports made, they have long been consigned to histories dustbinβ¦ π
I would be interested though in obtaining a copy of the article in question, was it very long? If you have time to find it Niall, could you let me know which issue it was in please.
I’m looking forward to your reply to my email!
Stuart
Mark
What a wonderful find, thank you for posting, do you know if back issues are available?
Best Regards
Stuart.
I wish you the best of luck with your project. I’ve made 3D models for computer games for years and I know how frustrating it can be trying to find reference material for some of the rarer stuff. π
Thanks OneEighthBit, if I’d known how difficult getting all this information about this bird was going to be… Well, I can’t say I have’nt enjoyed every minute of it… π
Found this: http://www.bomber-command.de/dv202_ph.html
And you can see it on Google Map as well… π
Air Ministry
You have mail… π
Walter: Stuart, you may find taking a look at spitfirespares.com helpful. They not only sell Spitfire stuff and every instrument listed is illustrated with a nice colour photo so you could do some matching with your Whirlwind panel photos to identify the various instruments, maybe not all of them but I guess it would be a good start.
Thanks Walter I will take alook… π
I did most of this many years ago for someone who was supposedly modelling a Whirlwind for a flight sim programme – was it you, and if so, what became of the project, as it all went very quiet?
My God, yes it was me, although I was not the modeller, I was the scrounger that was collecting the info to make the model for the flight sim… π It all went quiet because the chap making the model chucked the whole project, and knowone else wanted to take it over as they were all to busy with their own projects. I found out later it was not made in the correct manner to import it into the sim, so in fact it was worthless… Sigh!
Then to cap it all some little ******s decided to break in and steal thecomputers and the backups I had made with all the scanned data, which included unfortunately your list and your email and everyone else that was involed with the project… π‘ Gutted is not the word that could describe how I felt then, lucky for me they left the original papers alone π
The Police never got the thieves or my computers back, but by then it was to late to find another modeller to start over. So after a while I started scanning it all over again and eventually found another modeller who had already started to make the Whirlwind. The exterior model is now nearly ready to begin skining… But the next big job is making the cockpit, which brings me here again asking for help with instrument lists…
Funny old world… π
Air Ministry, I would be forever in your debt if you could help us again. This time though I will make sure to print a paper copy, just in case!
Regards
Stuart
Here’s a earlier low resolution render of the models…
