oh, i just love how confused some ppl’s views of the world are.
as if china is just itching to invade the US or sth.
if the US just stopped poking its nose where it does not belong, would there will be any chance of them getting a bloody nose from anyone?
also, surely most of u are too old to still be falling for the misleadingly dramatic titles jernolists dream up to sell papers and/or grab attention.
————————
Jonesy:
clever plan, but it will just backfire badly if anyone tired it for real.
china is fully aware of the dangers of relying too heavily on imported weapons. that is why for every imported system, the chinese have an indiginous one dispite the very high costs and logistical difficulties this brings.
also, its very clear that what the chinese are truely interested in when they buy weapons are the technologies involved, instead of merely the firepower those systems offer.
they have done it with pretty much everything they have imported. the Su27 came with TOT, as did the S300. the kilo and sovs are unlikely to be exceptions, and i doubt a whole reg of Su30s are sitting in china’s main testing and development centre because they got nowhere else to put them.
simply put, the chinese are intent on squeezing every last drop of knowledge they can from anything better then what they can make at present. even if TOT or licence production is refused, china will merely buy small quantities of advanced electronics and engines etc (whole plateforms if it must), take them apart and learn all they can from it.
they wont RE the thing and start making copies or derivitives like they did with the Mig21 etc, there is just no need now. but be assured that the next gen of chinese weapons will field technologies learned or inspired from the systems they studied.
that is what they have done with the russians, to the extent that their own indiginous systems have quantum leaped, and is on par with, if not superior to the very best the russians are willing to sell.
and that is what the chinese will do with the european weapons if the embargo is lifted.
they will add the knowledge gained from studying european systems with their own R&D efforts and raise their entire military industry to a whole new level. and it is that industry that china’s leaders are most interested in.
with the sanctions in place, the speed at which china’s military industry can advance is limited by the level of tech the russians are willing to release, and by the speed of its own R&D. without the sanction, china’s military industry will advance at a much greater speed.
then, theres also the effect the lifting of the ban will have on russia. with serious foreign competition, the russians will be forced to sell more advanced systems at a cheaper price….
Hamburger and plawolf,
I don’t want to create more of these arguments but in some way there are similarities if you look on the surface, like the Sukhois and missile systems that China and Vietnam purchased. But there are more deals which were done behind closed doors. For example, the Ukraine agreed to deliver radar systems and R-27 missiles to Vietnam, did China got it’s missiles from the same source? NO
And while the Chinese is buying the Sovremenny destroyers, Vietnam is ordering new missile boats and looking at some guided-missile frigates. Now you can’t say theres a link in that?
As for other projects, South Korea is upgrading Vietnam’s fleet of M-113 APCs, and India is doing the same thing for MiG-21s. So is vietnam copying China in anyway?
i’d expect ppl like F18 to avoid the finer issues so they dont get too confused, but im a little surpised at u.
i’ve pointed it out it time and again that my observation is only on the vietnamese AF’s purchases. even then im merely pointing out the striking similarities and not suggesting one is copying from the other.
there are plenty of good, logical hypothesis that might explain why that is. but some ppl who are just out to pick a fight tends to ignore them or cant even figure out what they might be. again, charateristics i’d expect from F18, but not u.
which so far just includes a few Sukhois and a missile system
well, its hard to find more examples when all vietnam has purchased for its air force in the last decade or so ‘just includes a few Sukhois and a missile system’.
a point which i have made repeatedly yet u still somehow managed to miss.
however since u dont seem to comprehend subtilty, i’ll have to make it blunt – raising the same question in different forms again and again while totally ignoring the answers is the most desperate kind of face saving measure there is. so why dont u save urself further embaressment and spare the rest of us more of ur repetative and redendent jiberish and hair spliting and just answer my question, what else have they purchased that mimics China.. or better yet, name some things that they HAVEN’T mimiced from China..still waiting agian.
thats just sad.
which is why I have much less posts compared to you ranting on to me, sens, canpark, etc
that and the fact that i started posting more the three years before u.
it was funny to begin with, but not all ur blunders are just plain sad. 🙁
and I quote from myself again
so mr poo poo, what else has Vietnam bought that mimics Chinese acquisition hmmm? by your logic, Indonesia is also mimicing Chinese acquisition too
do u have a mental condition that blocks out things u dont want to see or sth?
i have already given u of other examples stretching back more then ten years.
one or two similar puchases might be down to chance and fluck. but not 3 or 4, and especially when those 3 or 4 purchases are the only big ticket military aviation purchases vietnam has made over the said time frame.
since u dont seem to comprehend subtilty, i’ll have to make it blunt – raising the same question in different forms again and again while totally ignoring the answers is the most desperate kind of face saving measure there is. so why dont u save urself further embaressment and spare the rest of us more of ur repetative and redendent jiberish and hair spliting?
unfortunately some people are unable to read some one elses point and is rather adamant on defending their own distorted view while avoiding the main issue, thus filling up this thread with useless posts.
baad mr poo poo, you no get no chow chow today!
u took the words right out of my mouth. cheers for sparing me the effort of having to word something similar. :diablo:
this ‘discussion’ has gone off-topic long enough, and i will not waste more time giving out the same answers and free english lessons again and again.
so well done, u won, u got more free time and is more bored then i. all hail hamburger. now, will u please leave us alone and go bother someone else?
sounds like a detailed way of saying “copy” ..oops I just said the magic word 😮
well, sorry if the subtilties of the english language is a little too hard for u to grasp.
now now, best you stop diverting from the main issue.. what else has Vietnam copied from China hmm? you keep on avoiding this, you naughty boy you. :dev2:
still waiting for you to mention the Sovremenny purchase :dev2:
“mirrowing china’s military aviation purchases quite exactly”
“Originally Posted by plawolf:

😀 😎
Flip
flop
MOG! 😮 the magic words! 😮 how can i counter?! :diablo:
the devil is in the details.
“vietnam seems to be mirrowing china’s military aviation purchases quite exactly”
if u cant understand, that is an observation i made. not a claim that the vietnam government is copycating chinese military decisions.
please, you should really stop changing the subject about me and try to prove your claim that you keep trying to avoid.
So how is Vietnam mimicing Chinese arms procurement other than the Su-3X?
can’t do it can you.
well, there’s also the Su27Sk, Su27UB. not just similar types that derivered from the russian flanker, but the exact same versons. strip the makings and i doubt even the russian company that made these planes will be able to tell for sure which one is for whom without having to look at the cerial numbers.
while vietnam’s purchases are not large in number, its still quite significant considering these are the only major military ac purchases vietnam has made over that time period.
then there’s also the S300 SAM system, which vietnam also purchased shortly after china ordered their first systems.
theres probably others, but i cant remember off the top of my head, and to be blunt, i consider it to be a waste of time to go check up for u.
also, i never said vietnam was copying china, just pointing out the uncanny pattern of purchases the two countries have made over the last decade. the rest was just ur assumptions.
still waiting on ur explaining as to what point that vague one liner of urs was supposed to make. 😎
no axe to grind except for the fact that you’re avoiding your own ignorance and lack of logic in your statements, but that’s hardly surprising eh 😉
Especially since you couldn’t counter my arguements..
so mr poo poo, what else has Vietnam bought that mimics Chinese acquisition hmmm? 😎 by your logic, Indonesia is also mimicing Chinese acquisition too
lol, once again Mr hamburger dazzles us with his maturity and depth of argument.
aside from the cheap shots, what other point have u made?
if u think u got a point that can stand up to scrutiny, then lets hear it. because if u think that trying to keeping things vague so u cant be proven wrong is going to work, then u really should get out more. 😎
1. A disputed area (Kashmir/Spratly) with a much bigger neighbour. 😉
2. Splitting hair does not make smart.
All those countries named are using main military hardware from/based SU/Russia in big quantities. Some named for easier understanding.3. Vietnams military hardware is still of SU origin close to 100 %.
That replacements for that comes from Russia is no surprise. The buy of long-range strike-fighters similar to China has to have a military need/reason.
Malaysia/Thailand/Indonesia/Singapur are buying long-range strike-fighters.
Just a weapons-race?!4. I have no personal intrests in that region. Just looking in every corner and keep a free mind. “Every country has no friends but intrests” as Charles de Gaulle said. China, Pakistan and others are no exception from that.
At the moment the “hot spots” are in the background and other things are more important. But who mentioned that similarities about Flankers first? 😀
did we loose the plot somewhere?
all i asked was a simple question – how is the china/vietnam relationship anything like that of india/pakistan?
and how does any of what u said justify that? just because china and vietnam has a territory dispute it means they have a relationship like india and pakistan? if that is valid, then one might suggest that britain and spain’s relationship is also like that of india and pakistan.
the fact of the matter is that when someone thinks of india and pakistan’s relationship, they tend to not just stop on the ‘dispute over land’ level, but rather spills into the ‘hate each other’s guts’ category. so either its was a poor comparison, or u have to give good reason as to how china and vietnam’s relationship is like that of india and pakistan.
and so what if i brought up the similarities in hardwar purchase? is that a taboo subject?
Is that Sovremennyy on fire or something?
think its chaff and flars. the pic is most likely taken right after the decoys were fired and the ship should be moving away from the cloud soon after (i hope).
Please read first, before answer.
The Russian origin armament was limited to Vietnam and China by me.
But for the clever ones. The F-6s/F-7s/A-5s/T-84 and many more are based on former SU/Russian technology as well.
so whats with the india/pakistan example then? is there some secret source u’d like to share with us that proves the russians are pakistan’s main arms suppluer as well?
also, wording ur responces more carefully/accurately wouldnt hurt either. u said:
The main weapon-systems of Vietnam and China are both from Russia/SU.
not that they are based or derived from russian/US weapons.
look up sarcasm at http://www.dictionary.com got it poochy?
yeah i got it. just another person with too much time to waste.
if u got a valid point to make, make it. trying to be ‘subtil’ when there is no point to be make only means u are looking for an excuse to grind an axe.
yes that’s why Vietnam is ordering J-10s, Type-98’s, and Yuan class submarines..
is there a point u’d like to make or is there a post count u have to reach every day?
The relationship between Vietnam and China is similar to Pakistan and India.
The main weapon-systems of Vietnam and China are both from Russia/SU.
wrong on both counts.
the relationship between china and vietnam is nowhere near as hostile as that of india and pakistan.
as for armament, only india relies largely upon russian/soviet weapons while pakistan relies mainly on US and chinese weapons.
The last mayor clash was Feb 1979, when China invaded Vietnam to relieve pressure on Kampuchea. The PLA crossed the border at 26 points with 85 000 troops and a further 200 000 in reserve.
The towns of Lao Cai, Cao Bang and Lang Son razed. In the bloody fighting the PLA lost 62 500 troops killed or wounded, 280 tanks and most importantly face. The AFPLA lost A-5s/J-6s/J-7s to VAF MiG-21s/MiG-23s and SA-6s/SA7s.
and thats relevent because?
But both countries are in dispute over strategic economical regions south of Vietnam. (Spratly’s for example) The Flankers are the military tools for power-projection there. So no coincidence alone. 😉
you’d think that, but give the recent developments it doesnt seem so.
imagine u are fearing an attack by ur bigger and more militarily powerfu; neighbour. u’d want to arm up right to protect urself. makes sense. but why would u choose the exact same weapons as ur neighbour to arm up with?
both sides will have exactly the same equipment, but one side will have a hell of alot more, plus many other types, which they frequently excerise against the said weapons with.
sounds like a sure fire way to loose a conflict to me.
that could only mean china is not considered as the main threat by vietnam, or else they would most likely have gone with other ac types.
