I think J-10 with Mirage 2k-5/9 class avionics would be superior to mirage 2k 5/9 and cheaper by almost 1/3 or 1/2! ..so the question is why not!

I mean just look at it from a logical point of view..if J-10 is fitted with Advanced western Avionics…than its one of the most superior planes out there…PAF should follow indian example..see what they made of Su-30..and it only costs ~40 million, superior and cheaper than most of the western planes…PAF should do the similar…if there is J-10 with Thrust Vectoring out there…then Im sure J-10 + western avionics can take on Su-30mki.

well i think you answered your own question there. the J10 with advanced western radar and avionics would be cheaper and more capable then most of the western 3rd gens on the market and not far off from the euro-canards, so why would any western supplier give the J10 their avionics and radar so that the J10 can take orders from their fighters?

what does the French make more from, selling radars and avionics for J10s which in turn would be sold to a thrid party, or selling M2K-5/9s directly to that thrid party?

the only thing that may persuade the French to sell radars and avionics to the J10 is if the PLAAF have all their J10s fitted with the same radar. only then will it be worth while for the French.

however, the PLAAF wont take foreign kit unless it comes with full ToT and licence production in country later. and again we hit a snag as the French would not be willing to do that, cos then they would loose all their technical edge in a few years, and their next gen fighters wont be able to compete with their chinese counterparts, as the chinese made fighters will almost certainly be cheaper, and will most likely be on par in terms of performance.

not really, that statement just said that china can now provide all the different types of equipment the west has to offer, it doesnt say anything about these equipment being of the same, or even similar ability.

About the shot-down of a F-117 over Serbia, it is little known, that a French officer,
still gratefull about the role of Serbia in WWII, gave away all the data for a Serbian F-117 trap.

not blaming everything on the french again are we? 😀 IIRC, the F117 shootdown was a result of the serbians using older radars that had longer wavelengths, therefore deminishing some of the F117’s stealth charateristics, which were designed primarily against moderned, high res radars with shorter wavelengths.

back on topic, i agree that external weapons rail,s especially AAM rails will be of minimal use to the F22. why would it need extra AAMs if there is no longer a serious enemy air threat?

however, external droptanks would be more useful.

GD also posted sth like this on the ‘speculations thread’, IIRC. all i can do when i see one of these is put my hands up and ask, ‘ why do they bother’? just spoils a perfectly good pic. 🙁
