yeah, please.
while we’re on the subject of zhuhai, does anyone know when it will start this year? i’m going back to china in the summer to visit friends and family, might pop down and take a look (as well as some photos).:D
hey, does anyone have pics of the new russian ICBMs? maybe we can compaire the two and purhaps get some range info.
i was expecting more security, but then its not like someone is going to get far with it.;)
why would it need to be tested in france?
well, that settles it, this is an intentional release by the chinese authorities and not a chance discovery by planespotters.
great pic aCiDHg.
aside from the numurous disadvantages of the AC130 as explained above, there is also the matter of need and cost.
as u well know, the russian military is not blessed with the best budget lately, as such they only buy what they abosolutely must. and what good are AC130 type flying gunboats to the russian armed forces?
the AC130 is most effective in capeting massed infantry with little air defences at night, or supporting friendly infantry advances and taking out undiscovered bunkers and firepoints. chechens fight in small groups of less then a 100 in the vast majority of times, and use hit and run tactics. AC130s would be an overkill, not to methion dangerous to deploy.
hopeful…

could it be a PS job then? the enlarged pic of the helo does seem to have a smuggy ring around it.
“My question is how does one know it’s a phased array? Why is there a rotodome in that case?”
if u look carefully at the pic, u would see that although the shape of the round dome is similar to that of rotodome AWACS radar, the support beam is fixed, ruling out a rotodome. the design of the support beam would instead suggets that 3 none-moving radars are providing the 360 coverage, hence indicating that its a PAR.
“What about the A-50s on order for the PLAAF? Maybe it’s one of those?”
as explained before, the russian A50s use a different airframe(well not a different airframe type, but a different verson of the same a/c type).
“i mean – I still dont understand why the aircraft spotted in China cannot be indeed the same aircraft. “
well maybe it is the very SAME airframe that was to have the israeli phalcon radar system installed. but since the contract was canned and planes retured to china without radar, the chinese could have just added their own system to the airframe.
afterall, the airframe must have undergone modifications to accomodate the phalcon radar, so why waste money modifying another one?
also, it can also been seen as a sign of defience from beijing that they are still getting an AWACS even though the US blocked the phalcon deal. in fact, this may be why we are getting to see the a/c so quickly, jiang was reported pi$$ed as hell about the phalcon deal and made it a matter of honer that china gets an AWACS asap.;)
has the radar in the picture been exported? if it has, then purhaps this is a pic of an exported verson that is participating in some excerise outside of china.
“I think you’re confusing AWACS with AEGIS, a sea-based air defense system. AWACS are aircraft like the A-50, E-2, or E-3.”
lol, i was refering to the radar the bush admin sold taiwan.;)
