    “gripen

    Almost every aircraft ever built

    Mig 21″

    er, no.

the gripen might have considered exports, but the requirements of the swedish AF always came first, exports just made it more economically viable to build the bird.

and i have no idea how u can even think of adding the mig21 to that catagory. the fishbed might have been the most widely used jet fighter, but it was designed only to service the soviet AF (ie when it was designed, its designers only considered what the soviet AF might want/need from the fighter).

the FC-1 on the other hand, was created specifically for the export market as it had little chance of winning large domestic orders.

“plug and play ?? wait are you talking bout a aircraft or the Creatives labs Graphics chipset with the similar name?”

yeah, we’re talking abt an a/c. the FC-1 was designed with exports as its main objective – unique in modern aviation history IIRC. so it’s avionics suit was designed to be easily exchangable from the off set. the only things that are ‘fixed’ are the airframe and the bare minimum avionics and hydrolics needed to fly the thing, almost everything else could be easily changed. hence the term ‘plug and play’.

“J8 is not very good dogfighter and outdated design. It is an interceptor and even in that role it has troubles with low speed planes.”

if u just wanted a BVRAAM launcher (as u seem to imply), then the J8 is probably the best value for money for any AF. it has a massive radar, so has better range then planes like the FC-1; it is fast, so it launch its missiles and run away without giving the enemy much chance to shoot at it; if it misses, it can run away without having to engage in WVR combat.

the FC-1 is more of an all rounder, capable of BVR and WVR combat. but its not the best chinese fighter in that feild, which is the j10. if u only want a plane to fire BVRAAMs, then u would go for the J8, if u want an all rounder, the u wouldwant the J10. it might be a bit more expansive, but its well worth it.

“PAF has no need to have a fighter that size. It has not a huge depth so Indian planes will be within minutes on their target. Sending big high speed interceptor is not very handy in that scenario.”

well if u have big planes with long ranges, then u can base them further away from the boarder, where they are safer.

“Besides that they need to build up an industry with a plane that is capable as the F16. The FC1 is chinese design and plug-and-play western parts. That is the reason they rather go for a new and moldable design then an oldy.”

well would pakistan rather build FC-1s or j10s? would the PAF prefer a plug and play FC-1 or J10? i think the choice is obvious.

“You may have it are correct if these planes have same use and price. Which is clearly false. J10 will not be produced as a cheap BVR plane that makes allready different cause it is the high end part of PAF…”

well, both are air superiority fighters, with the only difference being that the J10 will be more capable and may have a better percision strike ability.

if ur only purpose for the FC-1 is to fire BVRAAMs at the enemy at range and cover the approach of miarge and F7s, then the J8 with the J10’s radar would make a better choice then the FC-1. (the J8 has a much bigger radardom then the FC-1!)

the FC-1 is designed to fire BVRAAMs to cover the approach of non-BVR friendly assets and to charge into the the enemy and dogfight. but the j10 would be better suited for that role as its more advance aerodynamic configuration should give it a better chance at WVR against the likes of the M2K and MKI.

as for price, well again, the J8 and F7PG combo would be alot cheaper then buying FC-1s. but the PAF chose FC-1. follow that train of thought and it would appear that if the given the choice, the PAF would love to have the J10 rather then the FC-1.

dont get me wrong, im sure the J10 will be made avaibable to the PAF some day, just not as soon as u suggested.

” Did you know when Sputnik made it’s revolutions around the planet, it’s beacon transmitted two sounds. Most of the time it was the familiar beep-beep-beep, but in the parts of it’s trajectory where it flew over the United States it was ‘puh-puh-puh’ “

LOL, and i thought communists didnt have a sence of humor. 😀

as for the space race, well with all due respect, but anyone who thinks that the race into space is finished in living in a fantasy world. its a big a$$ sky, and we havent even visited another planet yet.

like it or not, sooner or later resources will start to run out here on terra furma, and if the human race wishes to countine to expand our civilastion, then we would need to look to the stars for new resources.

the cold war ‘space race’ was merely a competition to see who can break out of the atomusphere, and ended after man landed on the moon and little more could have been done with technology available at the time.

the Yuri Gagarins and Neal Armstrongs were like the Columbouses of the 20th century, they pushed the boundries beyound what we thought was possible and discovered a whole new world. what would have happened if the europeans and british just stayed at home after the americas were ‘discovered’?

china has its sights set on the stars, and would be more then happy to be the only ones interested, but it seems that the americans only take interest in sth when someone else does too. i wonder if Mr bush’s grand lunar and mars plans would still have come abt if china hadnt send a man into space and expressed interest in the moon.

    to PLA:

PS, however, given the strong relationship between china and pakistan, it is also quite possible that there exists an ’emergency’ clous, that would allow the PAF to recieve J10s in times of crisis.

for example, if an indo-pak war seemed immonent (and china faced no serious threat herself at the time), then the PLA might consider giving (PLAAF) J10s to pakistan to try to balance the odds and try to deter india from making the first move (lets be rational here, given the current and most likely, future military imbalance between india and pakistan, pakistan would have to be nuts to start a war with india).

however, J10s in the PAF would be useless unless the PAF pilots can fly them (little chance of PLAAF pilots flying the J10s in PAF marking as the russians did with the mig15 in the korean war). so perhaps a few PAF pilots are sent to china each year to familarise themselves with the plane.

    Multirole:

“=IF= China acquires a carrier it is not absolutely necessary to use twin engined fighters. Plenty of American carrier jets were single engined. A thrust vectoring single engined J-10 would fill this role just fine.”

yeah one engine is adequit, but nowadays, naval fighters tend to have twin engines just in case on fails. and who’s to say that a twin engined j10 cant also have TVC?

besides, the general rule is that its alot easier to convert a carrier plane into a land based one then the other way around. carrier landings are just basiclly controled crashes, and puts a great deal of stress on the airframe. if the J10A is to be navalised, then it will probably need substantual strutural redesigning, and the added weight might have the same effect on the J10 as the redesign that turned the hornet into the superbug. and im sure u know how much we all hate the superbug. 😉

    Vaiar:

“Don’t you think this article says as much that China will let the conflict between herself and Taiwan escalate further?”

no, just that china will be ready to fight and win should chen sui bian cross the line.

    ——————————————————————————–
    PLA:

“Just reading that PAF send pilots to judge J10 means that Chinese are running their production program on time. Why else would they bother to sell these birds? There have been topics about PAF getting maybe J10 within a year… That explains the one year term.”

it is my firm belief that one of the main incentives behind the FC-1 project was the fact that the J10 was marked ‘off limits’ for the export market.

i seriously doubt that even if china is willing to sell the J10, that the PAF would be getting its first birds in a year. that would mean that the J10 will be in serivce before the FC-1! and why would the PAF still want the FC-1 if they can get a much better a/c sooner?

both the J10 and the FC-1 are CAC’s babies, so its highly unlikely that CAC would jepurdies its main export model by offering its main domestic model as well.

if teh PAF is to get the J10, then the earlies would be abt 5 years after the FC-1 starts entering service.

alot of that is just what’sbeen circulating on the web for a while now, but given the fact that the newspaper reporting it is unknown to me (and probably most others), the validity of this report and ‘confirmation’ remains to be seen.

but judging from the quality of the article (“J-10 is the Russian Suhoi-27 with an improved engine of AL31FN and high-tech fire-control radar that can follow 20 objects within the boundary of 150 km and attack four objects simultaneously.”), one has to be very spetical of its value.
