“Just one question. If the J-10 is secret, why is/was a picture of it on Chengdu’s official page?”

the J10 is supposed to be secret, but its not in reality. CAC probably desperatly wants to make this jet public to show just how capable they are. and of course, i would imagine that the engineers and designers behind the J10 are getting pretty upset at the fact that the guys behind the FC-1 are getting superstar treatment by china’s media while they are getting no reconition for creating a better jet.

“About the picture, are those official handouts or were they taken by a spotter? If the J-10 is secret and the spotter cannot be credited (he’s been doing a superb job) because of risk to himself, how can CAC use his pic?”

well there are a few pics that look like they are from spotters, but those are mainly poor quality little grany pics. al the high quality ones, in my view, must have come from CAC itself, cos ordinary ppl just wont get the opportunity to get that close to get away with it.

my guess is that after the first J10 pics got out, it wasnt really that important to keep things tightly under raps, so the guys looking after the picture archieves probably wouldnt get much stick if one of the pics they had on file suddenly appeared on the internet.

“One thing I notice that some unknown guy(s) are doing a lot of work in getting scans and photos about chinese projects but go totally uncredited. It’s not fair to post and repost their work in 1000 forums without giving their names (and preferably background).”

its not just anyone that could get hold of photos of still secret military projects within china (or any other nation for that matter). most of these pics are either ‘leaked’ by employees at major weapons manufactures or the companies themselves to show how well they are doing behind the shroud of secrecy the chinese authorities put up. if this is case, then is probably in theirs (and ours if we still want more ‘leaked’ pics in the future) that they remian anonomus.;).

if i met them im not really sure if i should thank them or shout at them, cos its not good to tell others too much abt what ur military can do.

    google:

with that pic as comparison, it does look the same as a tomahawk.

although the ‘redbird’ in the first pic does look almost identical to the tomahaw, in hindsight i supose the possibility that the second pic is a tomahawk is greater as china very rarely reveil pics of missiles being fired or in flight.

oh well, at least i learnt sth new from this. cheers.;)

well the two does look quite similar, but i remeber that tomahawks have a squarish shape as opposed to a cylinder as is the case with the redbird. (or is that just the old verson of it?)

come on guys, enough is enough, just ignore kya and get on with the discissions on topic. its not like its the first time ppl like him have surfaced.

guys guys guys, just ignore kya.

he seems to only sees the parts of posts (and by the looks of it, everything else) that he wants to see and u have someone who wont accept any argument, no matter how logical and well based on FACTS as long as it does fit into his view of how the world should be like.

so why waste time trying to convice someone who has no intension of find out anything more then what he already thinks he knows? its not like it matters what he believes or not.

    acfan2003:

“I don’t know why. I think they should. A squadron of these fictional “dragons” would be invincible. An F22 despite it’s technology has limited range, limited radar, limited armament.
That’s the limitations of a small fighter.”

small fighters are also cheaper, so u can buy more of them.

the bigger the plane, the more expensive it is, so u can only aford very few of them (like the B2s), whether such a small number of AC can win air superioirty is highly questionable. besides, the bigger the plane, the harder it is to make it stealthy. if the F22 detects this stealth bomber-sized-fighter the same time as it is detected, and the missile ranges are similar, then the big bird is going to be in trouble, even with the best ECM its alot easier for a fighter to aviod a missile then it is for a bomber.

“Probably the reason why large planes historically were relegated as bombers is because they didn’t have guided missiles back then. In the age of BVR fighting, manueverablity is antiquated and useless. What counts is having stealth, a powerful radar, powerful missiles so that you can see first, shoot first, and run away.”

er, i think an F22’s EW and RWR will not only warn the pilot when an enemy radar has lock onto it, but it can also tell the pilot exactly where the enemy radar is. there goes ur cover, that means u either have to get out of there with only one or two kills, or u risk being cornered by a swarm of F22s.

an AF of so few AC would be very hard pressed to play a significant role in any combat secnario with powerful opponents if its AC needs to run a few hundred miles after each kill.

and there’s also the problem of logistical support for this big bird. there must only be a handful of air feilds in the world that can acomodate sth that big, and in times of war, these birds might return victorious from one sorty to find that they have nowhere to land – AA fueling cant hold out forever, and u certainly cant re-arm planes in the air, so in times of all out war, sth like that might only be good for one mission. thats probably why B2s were originally designed to carry nukes, cos with nukes one mission is all u need.

“An active guided ramjet based missile with a range of 400km would be awesome.”

would also be very big. i have very deep reservations abt the combat effectiveness of an AAM thats bigger then the plane it’s designed to shoot down.

“China should also develop laser weapons to replace bullets for short range fighting. Also China should work on it’s invisiiblity technology.”

actually, if china can make a decent high yeild long range laser, then it might be worth investing in a few stealth ‘bomber’ armed with lasers instead of missiles.

just imagine, a stealthy AWACs with , say, 3 long range laser cannons with say 200KM ranges. wouldnt want to fly against that in no F22. (but by the time that becomes reality, fighters will probably be unmanned and have long range lasers of their own, as well as hypercruise:D. in which case i’d rather be the guy sitting on the ground then th guys flying in teh air;)) .

“The J10 is old already. They should officially release news about it now. Why keep it secret news? If they ever hope to export this thing, they should be showing videos about it ala FC1.”

which plane are you talking abt here? the J10 or the FC1?

if its the FC-1, well there is already at least one vid available on the net, most likely more would follow.

as for the J10, well i strongely doubt that china would want to export it anytime soon. selling to anyone else would almost garentee that the CIA would get a good look at it and the next thing u know the ‘top gun’ school will be teaching pilots how to beat it. not sth anyone would want to happen to their main workhorse for the next 20+ years so early on in its operational life.

if they are to export it, then it would most likely only happen after the J10C has flight tested or entered service (if there is a J10C that is).

“It’s not like J10 is cutting edge technology. It’s only equivalent to an F16, which is decades old.”

have u got access to CAC’s classified files on the J10? otherwise how can u know what the J10 is ‘equivilant’ to by just looking at picture of it?

“I hope they are busily developing the JXX, J10C. They shouldn’t be lazy now just because they finished the J10A.

I also hope they are busily developing new versions of the WS10A engine that are more powerful, and more fuel efficient for the JXX so it can have supercruise ability.”

they’re doing that and more, but at present they are probably consentrating on getting the WS10A working first.

“Plawolf, I assume the “other model” being tested might be Chengdu’s canard-delta planform?”

well that would be the obvious guess, however i dont trust the CG ‘J10X’ as much as the wind tunnel pics as anyone could have made that CG pic.

seriously man, just ignore kya, he only sees what he likes to see, no point in wasting time writing sth he wont read.

lets get back on track here, it just happens that there is a new article in china.com on the subject, link : http://military.china.com/zh_cn/head/83/20040109/11602067.html

it speculates that the chinese XXJ or J-X programme is already in the windtunnel stages with two different designs in the wind tunnel test stages at shengyang. now this seems significant as so far we have only seen pics of one design in the wind tunnels, anyone have any info on what the second design might look like, better still, any pics?:D

the article also states that if it is ture that the XXJ is in the wind tunnel stages, then it would be ahead of the russian 5th gen which would ender the wind tunnel sometime this year. however the article also specifically stated that this slight head start does not garentee that the XXJ would be completed before its russian counterpart because of russia’s superb aviation infastructure and experience.

other points worth noing are references to the type 1473 radar, WS-10A engine and its thrust vectoring varients and attempts at developing a AESA radar capable of tracking 15 and engang 6 simotaniously.

“Thats right – go ahead and speculate to your hearts content. Ignore questions about the legtimacy of your claims. Call the questioners names. “

 so there is no speculation in ur posts? the only difference is our speculations have more then just wishful thinking behind them.

“Actually the company says it is for the MKK. The Chinese posters here speculate and hope it is for the J10. I will believe what the company says not what you wish and hope to be true.”

it said the engines were for a chinese single engined fighter, if its not the J10 will it be the FC-1? or are u implying there is yet another secret chinese fighter programme?

and anyone with any basic knowledge abt the engine in question would realise that its not for flankers no matter what ppl claim. would u accept that 1+1=3 if a russian newspaper said it so?

“There is plenty of public interest in pakistan, and there are pakistanis lamenting that no more flights have been conducted. I guess it will remain another of those vapourware projects – till it is actually able to perform decently.”

    more unfounded speculation.

“rip-off does not have to mean it was copied legally. Since the windtunnel model looks so similar to the F22 – I guess the Chinese were attempting a blatant copy of the airframe. Perhaps that is only to study the aspects of the F22 that is visible. Who knows – does not prove that an F22 equivalent is in the works.”

LOL! by ur logic i guess i can make a ‘blatant copy’ of a TV or DVD by just seeing pictures of it. there’s a little more to a/c design then just the shape, especially a stealth a/c like the F22. the reason the F22 have a very low radar signiture is because it uses continouse curviture design tech perfected on the B2, that means the surface of the F22 needs to be perfectly angled to achieve a stealth affect, if its out of focus by even one 10th of a milimetre then the whole effect would be ruined. and u cant get that kind of percision from looking at a pic in a aviation mag.

“The rest of your post is frustration that someone does not believe your speculation. I am sure I will be called names next. After all if you can’t prove the message wrong attack the messenger. “

LOL! look whos talking! the rest of my post was in responce to baseless claims on ur part.

u claimed the JH7 was a copy of a russian a/c, well which russian a/c was it?

    u claimed the j10 was a LAVI ‘rip-off’, well where’s ur evidence?

u claimed the FC-1 was a mig 33 copy, well have u seen what a mig 33 looks like?i guess next u’ll claim the chinese cant copy either.

right now u have shown nothing but ur blatent lack of even basic aviation knowledge and a hostile tendency to anything that threaterns ur fictional universe. unless i see i sign of a willingness to learn and discuss on ur part, as posed to hypicritical selfdenying dictations, i dont see the point in wasting any more time with u.
