i was just pointing out that in this day and age, amoured hulls have little effect when a ship is hit by a missile. its even more pointless seeing how any anti-ship missile remotely cabable is designed to detonate a split second after impact, when the missile is in the ship.
the only area where extra strong materials might play a noticibale effect is indie the ship. but seeing how china can make warships, i dont think the bulkhead design is going to be of any major concern.

just compair that to the front end of most MBTs, and their hulls cant withstand a 50lb missile warhead, how thick do u think the hull of a ship would need to be to withstand a 1 ton warhead at flying at it at march 5?:rolleyes:
the days when warships were built like battle tanks are long gone. today ships rely on shooting the enemy first to prevent a missile flying at them. failing that, they try to stop the missile hitting the ship through either EW or physically interception it (SAMs, CIWS), failing that, the ships are built to minimise the chances of the ship being sunk by having lost of watertight compartments that can be sealed to minimise the parts of the ship exposed to fire and the sea.
no ship is unsinkable, the best ppl can do is make it as difficult to sink as possible, provided its economically viable.

as i said before in one of my posts. as china’s economy grows, so does its reliance on imported oil. and lets not forget that china is one of the world’s largest exporter and importer. most of that is done via sea lanes. this means that china’s future success and perhaps even safety is linked to the sea, and it would be very short sighted of them to not want to stronge navy to protect their interests should it come under threat. and at the certre of all powerful navies are carriers. its just a natural step forwards for a nation on the assendence.
also, china has some territorial disputes with quite a few nations over islands in the south china sea and yellow sea. a few carriers would give china extra leverage in negociations over these disputed territory.

well, im not sure where u heard abt the engine, but most sources indicate that the SD-10 is the R77’s seeker (or a verson based on that seeker) married to a chinese rocket booster with loft tragectory. this means the missile first flies upwards and drops down at the target as opposed to flying a straight line towards it. this is supposed to give the missile better range and greater energy at the end of the flight.
also, i think the SD-10 has a slightly bigger diameter then the R77 (might lead to bigger seeker head and more fuel).

right now truely violent crimes against home owners who catch burglers are rare (thats why we hear abt every single case), this would sure change if what some of u are suggesting gets made into law. and frackly, im alot happier with someone leaving with my TV then with my blood on his hands.

anyhow, u cant make a ship as big as an AC ‘missile proof’ unless ur willing to build a ship with the capacity (number of a/c it can hold) of a nimitz but weigh the same as a ST, but if u do that, u’ll probably sink in bad whether before anyone fires a shot at u.
the point of damage control in the design of ships is mainly focused on building lots of water tight compartments so u can quickly cealing off damaged areas so the ship dont sink, not to try to bounce missiles off ur hull without taking damage (cos it cant be done without resorting to outragously extreme measures).

plawolfwell i think ppl who find strange visitors in their house in the middle of the night should have the right to make sure that these uninvited guests do not pose a threat to themself or their families. however i do not think that that should be a blank cheque for ppl to shoot the guy in the back and have a defence for it.
and i think thats how it generally goes. if some punk burgler breaks into a house, gets caught but dont run away and gets a beating, the police would normally not press charges unless it goes too far. even if the house owner does go over the limit and the burgler wants to sue, most house burgerlers dont have very good credibility in a courtroom, and very few have good enough lawyers to be able to win a claim, so i think the odds are still in the favor of home owners (who have the stength to defend themselves).
but that leaves the OAPs and single women. for them i think a different set of rules should apply – if the burgler is unarmed, they should be allowed to use a baseball bat, if the burglers are armed then it their own fault if they get shot.

well that makes alot of sence, but it still leaves some questions unanswered. for example, if it is true that the PLAAF can only absorb one regiment per year, it still doesnt stop them buying two reg’s worth this year and not bothering the next.
i beleive it is the lack of training resource that is limiting the number of flankers the PLA can absorb, not lack of worthy pilots. the MKKs are twin seaters after all, for training they can just train more pilots at the same time to push up absorbtion rate. with the MKKs taking over some of the more advanced courses in the sylibous and freeing up the UBs to train more pilots on the basics.
and there is also the possibility of the PLA asking the russians to deliver the birds over a longer period. unusually prices tend to go up if u want sth built ASAP, but it might cost so much if u wanted them produced in economic batches.
