I have lost count of the times that Rafale fanboys have written that line over the years (often in contests that the aircraft has lost). Usually it comes down to “some official said so off the record”… So has the Indian MOD come out and actually said that Rafale came top of the technical evaluation? Any official statement, press release or press conference? If so no problem! But somehow I doubt it!
All we know is Typhoon and Rafale met the testing requirements to get through to the last round of the evaluation – please do give me a link to an official statement if the case is otherwise! If not, STOP peddling the same old tired statements!
FedaykinSwitching from the STOVL “B” to the CATOBAR “C” improved combat radius from 500+ miles to 800+ miles (no reserves). Unfortunately, that is still well within the range of a DongFeng 21C or cruise missile armed H-6.

I doubt they would need a radar evading helicopter for missions in AF-Pak arena. It must be more of stealth in the visual /acoustic area.
Although having posted a comment on Pakdef forum that using a stealth helicopter proves that Pakistanis had no clue about the operation and the compound was an ex ISI safe house touched a raw nerve somewhere and I was banned within 10 minutes!
Well if the helicopter is levering Comanche program technology whatever crashed probably offers radar, acoustic and IR stealth. The question is whether this is a modified helicopter or something new designed from the ground up.
Hardly surprising that you would get a ban from Pakdef for suggesting ISI involvement, this is a highly sensitive issue for Pakistan.
FedaykinLooks like technology from the Comanche program lived on in other projects. Its a technology coup for Pakistan even if the airframe and avionics were destroyed. They might be seen it as reasonable compensation for the invasion of their airspace, I wonder if the Chinese will get a look in on the analysis.

I am in no doubt that the FAA and Aeronavale will welcome working closer together in the future (actually I have a hunch the FAA will prefer it to working with the RAF). For the UK we will benefit from their skills in respect of CATOBAR operations and I think regular visits of French aircraft will be vital in keeping up a decent flight program for the QE class. As for the French considering PA2 looks nowhere closer having a deck they can practice on close to home waters will be fantastic, at the moment they have to send crew and aircraft stateside whenever CdG is in refit to maintain deck skills. For that matter they probably wouldn’t need to leave France to hop over to a UK carrier operating in home waters.

If India wants it then they will get it! Considering how much the deal is worth to the Eurofighter consortium and the partner countries they are hardly going to hold back funding are they!

OK then why is Super Hornet not still in it then? It has an excellent AtoG capability that it is using off carriers now.
Typhoon met the requirements of the contest so far, it clearly has something to offer.

Air & Cosmos is in France, what Aviation Week is in the english-speaking countries: a venerable and well established journal read by most professionnals from the air & space industries and administrations.
I do work at the DGAC (the french civilian aviation authority) and my bosses always get their weekly issue (which I sometimes manage to get my hands on…).
It has a reputation of seriousness and impartiality, and from my point of view, it deserves it. I’ve been reading its issues since well the end of the 80’s and I have always been impressed by the excellent quality of its articles, both in the business & industries domain, the Defence domain, and the technology domain.
I can’t say Air & Cosmos never shown some resentment at all the Rafale-bashing by the english-speaking aeronautic press (ESPECIALLY the JOUST story), but it was never complacent to Dassault nor the rafale.
Plus, if the Rafale received its share of honors from A&C, it was only after it proved it deserved it after the operations in Afghanistan or, more recently, in Libya…
I’m sorry Merlock but from where I am sitting that is a bit of “The pot calling the kettle black”!

Get a grip! Air&Cosmos really… a French magazine that would certainly be interested in Rafale winning! Heck when Jon Lake writes one of his rather silly pro Typhoon articles in AFM then everybody kicks off but we are meant to take whatever Air&Cosmos magazine says as gospel truth. As for quoting somebody from another forum…get real! How is that possibly verifiable?!
If India wants lots of ground attack capability and Typhoon has managed to get to the final short list of two then Eurofighter consortium have something serious to offer!

FedaykinAnd neither it should be as the ground attack features were only going to come in later tranche 2 early tranche 3 of Typhoon. That was in keeping with the planned Jaguar OSD. Typhoon was always intended to be a Jaguar replacement unfortunately previous defence cuts messed things up. Adding a ground attack capability to some Tranche 1 airframes was a foolish exercise but it shut up some people at the time.

Not really, America doesn’t want to cause more trouble then it already has with the Muslim world. Being accused of mistreating a Muslims body even that of a mass murderer like OBL is not worth the trouble! Put it this way I doubt they did it with much ceremony before slinging him over the side, probably a weighted bag and ensured it was VERY deep water so there is no risk of some fisherman accidentally scooping him up. Finally a photographer to ensure that they had some recorded evidence just in case they had problems with conspiracy nuts!
