On another hand you forgot something concerning our poor Rafale fanfoy’s fate: we also endured the JOUST simulation for years which established once for all in 1994 that the EF is obviously superior in AA, just a bit behind the F22, and everybody else behind.

Thanks yes I forgot about JOUST and how it has been used to **** off everybody especially the Rafale crowd!

What really angers me about JOUST is how its findings were totally abused and twisted. It was (and actually still is)used as an excellent way of simulating different threat situations. Unfortunately the press, Eurofighter sales types and Fanboys picked up on it and totally misunderstood what it was all about…that it was developed to support development of the BVRAAM program NOT Eurofighter! Computer modelling and simulation can give you lots of useful data for development programs before you take the risk of actually cutting metal. JOUST was at first used to simulate all sorts of combat situations with different missiles and aircraft, the system allows you to throw in all sorts of MADE UP variables to allow really flexible modelling of different scenarios! After that the system was used to support (and still is) the Typhoon development program, that sales types and the press picked up the results and totally confused what the data was meant to be for is a total embarrassment! JOUST is still in use today allowing modelling of different weapon systems and threat scenarios which can then be pushed into development programs:

It should never of been used as a stick to bash other aircraft as that wasn’t the point of its development. I have no doubt that Dassault probably do very similar data modeling to support the Rafale program as do other manufacturers.

USAF said otherwise in respect of an F22 vs Rafale encounter. Apparently there is slightly wore evidence for the Mirage 2000-9. But what does it matter as the USAF won’t give us the context of what happened there is nothing more to say.

Grandclaudon massively changed his tune after his rather fanciful press conference when pressed on the points! Nuff said!

Rafale fanboys tend to hate it when the ZERO sales or underpowered engine things come up in respect of Rafale (P.S. I don’t think its underpowered but its amazing how something can get blown out of all proportion if its repeated enough). Whilst Typhoon fanboys get irritated at reports like this or the idea it has never a legitimate sale or BAE bribes blah blah blah!

I don’t think I can take the next few months of this honestly! Can we just have reporting of developments with this contest rather then raking up mud!

When he was later interviewed and asked to clarify his statements he was clearly shown to be economical with the truth of what happened. The Americans were also angry with the story that he told as well. It was clearly an exercise in supporting the Rafale sales drive in the UAE rather then talking about what was a training exercise.

The problem is it just isn’t going to happen! However much we would like to see the FAA have its own squadrons the money counters won’t allow it. The fact is the FAA and the RAF need each other:

If the FAA want fighters on their carriers then they will need to share the airframes with the RAF.

If the RAF want a GR4 replacement then they need the longer legged F35C that can be operated off carriers.

I also think the RN see a future where they share pilots and even aircraft with the Aeronavale to keep up a core skill base. Which is why as I have said before that the UK won’t replace the Sea King ASaC 7 and find a way to share the French E2 Hawkeye maybe even putting what limited funds we had to do a full replacement of our AEW Sea king to help the French buy those extra one or two E2 they have always wanted.

Certainly Rafale and French E2 will be a regular sight on the QE and hopefully PoW.
