Too big and handy to go to waste I would of thought that several countries would happily take them on. There would even be space to up arm them I think so watch this space I suppose.

This has been a major issue in the development of the type 45, in the end it inherited many of the systems chosen for the horizon program including the Sylver/Aster combination.

For a while the RN was quite interested in purchasing SM2 Standard with Mk41 and integrating it with local radar and systems but they couldn’t sell it to the Italians and French who were keen on Aster.

There is room on the Type 45 for extra strike length Mk41 VLS is needed and DCN France are developing a larger A70 Sylver launcher allowing the integration of missiles like Tomahawk and naval SCALP.

Rafale will get real clients that paye and not be payed to get a deal!

This has been done to death now but you show a lack of understanding of the partnership agreement for the Eurofighter. If Germany was to drop Tranche 3 then they would have to pay expensive penalties to the other partner nations. The same goes for the Saudi deal whilst aircraft are being diverted from the early RAF production run to satisfy the the deal to avoid penalties the UK has to produce more airframes to satisfy the partner agreement for Tranche 2. In effect the RAF gets the same amount of airframes just later.

I am not doubting that the Rafale is state of the art but so is the Eurofighter and in many ways they are both cold war relics in your words. Actually the major slice of development of the Rafale predates the EF2000 with Dassault flying a prototype long before the first Eurofighter flew. As for this constant issue about time to height you keep on bleeting about it is widely known that the Rafale is underpowered and there has been pressure in France to develop the uprated M88 to deal with that. On the otherhand the EJ200 has an excellent power to weight ratio with strong growth potential. Your posts are sounding more and more like sour grapes! Go ahead and big up the Rafale if you want to just stop resorting to illconsidered arguments.

P.S. If another person brings up aircraft generation as a justification I could snap my laptop in half…….its just brochure speak! 😡

To read his posts you would of thought that the Rafale had won every contest it had entered! At the moment it is Eurofighter which has two export orders plus a large order book from the partner nations allowing the production lines to be kept open for years to come.

If Rafale doesn’t get an order soon then they will have trouble keeping the line open.

I think that once the new fighter purchase is sorted out India will move to retire the Mig-21 sooner rather than later. Looking aside from the relative technical merits of the types the induction of the J-7PG into Pakistani service has been far less painful then India’s Bison upgrade program considering the J-7 were new build.

I was frankly very surprised when America cleared Amraam for the Pakistani airforce, its an extremely sensitive system for them when it comes to security of its capabilities and Pakistan is just a bit too friendly to China. Mike model Sidewinder makes a great deal of sense for Pakistan as it does have surprisingly good performance and it will be easier to integrate with existing types in heir inventory. As for the future I wouldn’t be surprised if Pakistan is waiting out for Chinese developments in the agile WVR missile front.

It might be a Chinese CAIG Z-11 actually.
