Now were talking!
I have every single episode on official VHS and intend to move onto the DVD’s.
As for the best from that series well it has to be the Thunderbolt class starfury!

And for those who are interested:
Yeah I heard about this, I think it was a Mel Gibson project.
If the government had decided to not extend the life of the Type 23 in service and gone with the Frigate replacement program we might just of seen the Trimaran concept go forward.
The Americans were certainly interested as they are looking for a follow on for the OHP class. There was definately an opportunity for a joint project with the Americans stumping a share of the development cost for a common platform.
I saw a list price of the Y-12II at $2.5m. This was for a Canadian contract a few years ago. The DHC-6 Otter is not even built anymore so the price of any Otter being bought today is for second hand.
Actually, the other major military 15-20 seater turboprop is the PZL Skytruck from another group of former commies, the Poles.
Ironic for the Y-12 to get a sale to Canada.
I think if the French carriers had been big enough they would of gone for the F-4 Phantom but as has already been said the Phantom is just too big.
The British Phantoms needed the Spey and a double extendable nose leg to get off the Ark Royal with a reasonable load. I presume the USN Phantoms that cross decked onto the Ark had to launch with a reduced load.
The Udaloy I went on last year had rail tracks all around it’s deck.
How does the Y-12 compare cost wise to the roughly equivalent DHC-6 Twin Otter?
Nice to here from you again Ja, been missing your input.
Congratulations on the engagement and I hope you enjoy your trip to Wales.
I’m not sure what your trying to get at here Foofoone? Wikipedia is NOT seen as a valid source on this forum.
If you look at the Rafale page you will probably see just as much biased French sources.
Hmmm thats surreal I happen to be watching an Anime with a character called Renton at the moment.
Here is a design I found in a german magazine called Naval Forces from 1995.
It is an early design of a Harrier capable BIP which became Mistral.
I like this design very much – today Spain is building a simillar ship.
I added one of the designs mentioned earlier – the PH75.Does anybody have more of the Vickers designs from the 80ies?
Thats quite a handsome design, I especially like the deck edge elevator.
Also recently as part of a pilot exchange an RAF pilot has just qualified as an F22A pilot. In return an American is going to qualify for the Typhoon.
I also wouldn’t call the engines weak, they are some of the lightest most powerful ones out there.
Iran already has quite an impressive aerospace infrastructure thanks to the warm relations the Shah had with the U.S. He was a keen aviation enthusiast too.
Iran Aircraft Industries(IACI) was setup by Northrop Grumman in the 70’s. Bell Textron also set up a facility where Iran’s entire chopper fleet can be rebuilt/manufactured.
So yeah, they already have a “few” things that give them a headstart.
I think “headstart” is an apt way to describe Irans aerospace industry, combined with a young well educated populace its hardly surprising they are trying to do their own thing. I think they will have to look outside for a decent replacement for the F-14 but I think when they come to trainers, light fighters and helicopters they will try to satisfy demand with idiginous production.
How many of the various fighters and attackers do the Iranians currently have in their inventory?
P.S. I love the “nun” sitting in the cockpit of that fighter jet….was quite funny although I’m sure I’m not supposed to be laughing….lol.
I have a hunch she was probably not a nun PhantomII! :p
The numbers are conflicting when it comes to numbers in service the Iranian’s are rather sensibly for them keeping their cards close to their chests.
